Well if he as an overweight, older man (one of the most at risk groups) can shake it off after 2 days then maybe.. just maybe it has done him some good?
I have no skin in that particular game but it will be interesting to see.
Although we are going a tad off topic.
He hasn’t shaken it off yet. There are reports that this is an illness that will seem to be not too bad for a few days / week and then hit hard. let’s see what the situation is like in the next week(s)

lockdown fatigue has truly set in. If Boris tries to lockdown fully again I suspect major rebellion from the Tory party. Who’d have thought he’d be no good in a crisis? Ahem

I’m not in an area that is fully locked down luckily. But I minimise my contact and just try and get on with life. As I said in other threads, this has encouraged me to significantly improve my blood levels so along with flu jab, hopefully I am as protected as I can be. Just need to keep going

I’m more worried about any plan to make us wear masks in the workplace. I can cope for a few minutes in a shop but steamed glasses and harder to breathe is a good way to bring on panic.

Try washing glasses with soap. Rinse the soap then let them dry. Polish if required only when dry. It helps a fair bit. Also there are spacer type bits of plastic you can insert in your mask that holds it away from your mouth. It helps people who suck the mask in or feel stifled.

Back when I was snorkling a lot, we would prevent our face masks and goggles from steaming up by spitting on the glass and then smearing it around, then rinsing in sea water, just before use - worked a treat.

I can feel you all recoiling in repulsed horror at the thought Of doing anything similar to glasses! Haha!

Not at all. There used to be a communal spit and smear in the diving boat when I was young enough to scuba and my knees were good enough to get me back on board again. Some people had a special wipe, or gel bottle to prevent fogging. There may still be anti fog stuff around if you look for it - online?

Rather than another lockdown, maybe a review of shielding criteria, with special consideration and support instituted for those who are more likely to suffer badly, or die from Covid, would be better. It wouldn’t be foolproof, and support would depend upon measures that helped maintain mental health too.
It’s very hard to retain social contact for people who are vulnerable and ensure contacts don’t transmit the virus (no tea and crumpets with certain politicians) but this is where everyone would need to be prepared to adjust their behaviour.
I think, on reflection, this is as likely as a Moonshot.
That might well be preferable to a complete lockdown, and better for the economy. But it still means complete lockdown for the vulnerable. Despite the fact that I choose to stay indoors (1 major co morbidity plus one inflammatory condition plus age nearly 75), and despite having another adult in my household, I find it difficult and lonely. A friend aged 71 with heart problems is finding it very lonely and has started hearing voices and having delusions. I suspect the isolation has been too much for them.

Boots opticians have a product to apply to stop the steaming. It’s very good from what I’ve heard, but it was out of stock when I went to buy some.

Yes, support for mental health and lack of social connection could be very difficult to create. That’s why I feel it’s really only possible to protect the vulnerable if everyone adjusts their behaviour. I was in Lidl today and encountered two young people whose masks were too big and had slipped under their noses. It may not have affected the rest of us very much, they would no doubt have created a small amount of contamination had they had Covid, or so I hope, but it illustrated the difficulties I referred to. Even in those who try to follow the rules there can be a lack of the gorm gene - too many are gormless.

Specsavers sell "No Fog" lens cleaning wipes, I bought them when I was there on Saturday but haven't tried them as yet, they were around £6 for a box of 30.
