Blood reading says h1?

MsxDx

Newbie
Hi I’m a type 1 diabetic
I’m always getting confused still when it comes to this I have a really hard time with it
My bloods are usually high above 18 anyway
Tonight’s reading says H1 on my metre no ketones flashing up on it
I’ve just took my insulin and now drinking plenty of fluids what else should I do ?? will retest in next half hour

Hi @MsxDx , and welcome to the forum!
Most meters say HI when you're at 32 or above. If it hasn't started to drop in half an hour, I'd call 111 for advice.

Did you test for ketones or only for glucose?

Take care of yourself, better safe than sorry!

Ketones flashing up when you do a glucose test doesn't mean you have ketones, as the glucose strip doesn't test for that.
It only means the meter thinks you should be checking your ketones because of high blood sugar, very confusing!

Your story sounds like you could do with a bit more guidance on your diabetes, but for now the main thing is to make sure you are safe for tonight.
I'd urge you to call 111 for advice, blood glucose this high can be dangerous.

Very good!
Keep a close eye on it though.

Do you have a diabetes team (endocrinologist, diabetes specialist nurse, possibly other people)?
Have you asked for help with managing your diabetes?

Many of our UK members have done a DAFNE course, to help them learning to adjust their insulin based on the carbs in their meals. This could be very helpful for you too.

I wish you a wonderful 2021!
