I have had type2 Diabetes for a while now and use insulin twice a day. I should (I think) take my 2nd dose before dinner, but I hardly ever reminder to. Then in the morning my BGL is to high. My question is...Is it ok to space out the dose to about 10 to 12 hours apart instead of like the 6 hours it would be before dinner??

The insulin is to bring down your blood glucose after eating so if you don't inject its not going to work , but if you forget to take the insulin you can always do a correction dose as soon as you remember. Are you on a mixed 70/30 ? Or separate bolus / Basel insulin as the 70/30 will still be working long after you have eaten .so if you inject before breakfast then you don't inject again till tea time usually , what dosages are you taking and what is your morning / teatime glucose reading

Ir depends what type of insulin you are taking,
If you have two doses a day, it is likely to be mixed or slow acting insulin and fixed dose.

Fast acting insulin like NovoRapid is to be taken with food and the dose is based on what you eat.
However, my understanding is that mixed and slow acting insulin do not need to be taken with food as they have longer profiles.

You can look this up by Googling the profile of your insulin. For example "Lantus insulin profile". This will give you a graph of how long your insulin is active after injecting and when the peak is.

I was on humulin m3 a 70/30 mix insulin and was always told to take just before your first bite for the quick acting part to be at its most effective so yes you do have to take with food
