im aware that the newer regimes

Hi,

What are you currently prescribed.? (Insulin wise.)
I was on fixed doses in my early years as a young T1. For me. Not the way forward. (Lifestyle to hectic.)
I feel, "if" one has a tight "clockwork" daily routine. It can work.?

It works better for some people not others... something that needs discussing with your care team

My thoughts ... but may not be correct... it seems that the fixed doses are more corrective especially if its taken twice daily so you'll be high between meals I don't see how you could have lunch and not be high afterwards without insulin... its less flexible as you are on fixed doses so you need to eat and exercise more based on the insulin you have

Where as separate meal time insulin you adjust based on your food and activity level

I guess there are many factor to take into account when the decision is made including the mental capacity to adjust the dose and learn what works and what doesnt... willingness or ability to have multiple injections a day

However if you have a fairly stable life it may work well

I mention the points above as the only people I've know to use it didn't have the capacity or willingness so it was considered premix to be better for them

Premix certainly wouldn't work for me....... however I guess if you are on tablets with poor control and just moving to insulin that it would be an easier start and probably give you better results than the tablets alone

i guess what im trying to learn is
do i need to eat the meals?
can i drink them as long as there
are no hypos?
im having alot of teeth pain and its hard to
chew the foods

and does breakfast need to be eaten?
i would be taking 2 injections one before breakfast
and one before supper
and can i just skip lunch then?

my routine is basically the same right now
i eat a meal between 2 and 4pm
sometimes a snack at night
rare exercise with massive swelling (legs n feet)
footwear worn when i have to go out

i dont start it until tomorrow
but if i dont have enuf info. i will wait
til i do

its a 40/60 mix but i dont know the exact name
my drugstore has ordered it
so i cant see what its called yet
i can only remember the dr saying 40/60 premixed
and his titration instructions
and numbers to get when

Hi,

You should eat something. So soft food if you can tolerate it.? Or soups would be fine..
If you can monitor your BG levels closely whilst using your new insulin? It will help you understand trends.
Hypo wise, you can drink sugar'd drinks to treat them..

One issue I have as a gigging singer in a band. Is when low? I can't chew swallow & sing. Liquid sugar in drink form, works.

Drinkables can be..
Sugared Coke.
Sugared tea or coffee.
Sugared lemonade.

Virtually anything "non diet." Milk can help to?
I'm not certain what part of the world you reside. Lucozade is pretty much my liquid fixer of choice.

its weird though
because the 2 injections are supposed to be
6 hours apart
before breakfast and before supper
ok so say a person eats breakfast at 8 am then lunch at 12 that's a space of 4 hours
but in 2 more hours its 6 hours--time to take the presupper injection
who eats supper at 2 in the afternoon?

that leaves a person having to eat 3 meals in 6 hours

ok so it came
the weight gain
i guess i just will (gain weight)
on all insulins i use
the awful hungers gone tho
that i had using toujeo and
novorapid :)

so to hopefully stop more gain
just make sure my body needs
every calorie i give it
so theres none to be stored

o and it seems that the insulin im
on now supports 30 grams of carbs
twice a day and still stay within 10
postmeal
i tried 14 g carbs today for the
first meal and my post meal
number barely moved
i guess at least i had success with that

still on the premix insulin
the best thing about it so
far is that it doesnt give me
the ravenous hunger
that the modern insulins
do

my question is
why does a person have to eat after
30 minutes of taking it?
i have barely any response from it
until at least 2 hours after injecting--
not eating
so why am i not crashing?
and
if i ate after 30 minutes
then would i go really high
since im not getting a response
for a few hours?

no guesses?
on why i can inject it
then dont need to eat for
so long afterwards?

its supposed to begin working
in 30 minutes
why isnt it?

Have you tried injecting in different places? Some places are better for absorbing the insulin than others for some people. For example insulin absorbs really slowly in my thigh, much quicker in my stomach.
