hi
i am long term type 1 , 50+years and 1 of my sons 43years old has sadly followed my health paths about 10 years he has recently had sukkarto sr tablets added. i am slightly concerned as the only information on line seems to be for use in type 2 cases.

Metformin (i.e. Sukkarto) has several benefits. The main ones for T1D is that it axts to protect the cardiovascular system and reduce risk of CVE which diabetics have increased risk from. Secondly, metformin forms a matrix within the gut as it passes through the digestive system. This matrix is a sponge, and it absorbs glucose forming in the gut and prevents it from entering the blood. It carries this parcel of sugar and gets excreted with the other waste products. So it reduces what goes in.

The other mode it helps is mainly for T2D which is acting to reduce insulin resistance (IR). Some T1D do suffer IR but I am not sure if Metformin helps a T1D in this respect. If the IR is in the muscle cells then it may apply. It is the adipose IR that would not be applicable, I would think, since metabolic syndrome is mainly T2D effect.
