Hi there, recently diagnosed and have just been given Sukkarto metformin to start taking.
The age old question I suppose….. Can I take these and still enjoy a glass of wine in the evening? Thanks, Nick.

I take Metformin, and enjoy a glass of wine or two. No ill effects. Keep it to weekends, though.
I would suggest trying Metformin without the wine, first, as some people do have ‘digestive issues’ with it.

From the NHS website

Can I drink alcohol with it?
Yes, you can drink alcohol while taking metformin, but it's best for men and women to drink no more than 2 units per day.

Drinking more than this can increase the risk of low blood sugar.

Try to keep to the recommended guidelines of no more than 14 units of alcohol a week.

A standard glass of wine (175ml) is 2 units. A pint of lager or beer is usually 2 to 3 units of alcohol.
