GP rung me today to put me on medication for diabetes . Had blood tests roughly a month ago showing reading of 57. Had further blood tests last week reading was 52...not much above the 48 criteria. GP was quick to want to put me on medication till I reminded him my reading had dropped roughgly 10% in less than a month. I explained I had started an exercise regime...2 to 3 miles walk each day plus cutting out added sugars such as in drinks, carbonated drinks, biscuits , cakes etc....determined not to be on medication. Already have no choice with blood pressure medication. Agreed with GP to see diabetic nurse in a weeks time and get tested agian in three months . Hopefully blood sugar levels will be back in normal range by then. Feel fitter and have lost seven pounds in a month. Why oh why are GPs so keen just to saddle people with more drugs?

Hi , I was dx only 6months ago with a slightly higher numbers than yours and without any medications just diet changes and little exercise I'm now at 41 . I can't tell you what to do and others on here would probably agree but I would talk to your gp or nurse and and see if they will give you more time to get your numbers down lower without the need for meds . Not all people are the same but I've seen a drop in my blood pressure also since I started the diet so maybe in short time you'll also see a difference. In the meantime congrats on lowering you numbers already keep up the good work and you'll be in non diabetic range in no time

Not on meds... told GP I would continue on my exercise diet regime as Im a firm believer in NOT taking medication unless there is NO alternative. GP is arranging blood tests in 3 months to see what levels are like then. In the meantime I have an appointment with diabetic nurse so will seek her advice. Thanks for the support.

First of all congrats, sound like you have a grasp on this already.
The reason doctors prescribe medicine is that it's very rare for them to meet someone like you willing to make the diet & lifestyle changes.
There is 2019 data of every T2 in Scotland, only 1 in 20 were in remission so you'll be a very rare beast.
