Libre unstuck in shower.

Just had a shower and my sensor fell off. Not got a spare as gp only give me one at a time. So frustrating. Now sensorless for about a week till new prescription.

Advice and suggestions how to avoid this happening again.

I buy these waterproof adhesive patches off of amazon. They are cheap and basic, latex free, hypoallergenic and made for the Libre. I bought the patches as mine kept falling off due to me sweating. Since buying these patches I have not lost any.

Now I have looked, there are loads to choose from. Thanks

After reading your message, I bought some adhesive patches, one of which also gave away the sensor anti-collision shell, which is really very convenient to use, thank you for the recommendation!

@becca59

You obviously have a different gp to me. No amount of asking/pleading even in tears of desperation would get them to prescribe 1 as a one off, so that I always had a spare one when I was moved from collecting them from the hospital pharmacy to gp prescribing. Hospital DNS at the time, who was usually very helpful wouldn't/couldn't do anything either. Only resolved when 2 in a row fell of early (yes they actually did!!).

Not good @Hopefull34 I get 2 every 4 weeks and am ahead. So every time the new prescription comes I still have one left. They were originally prescribing monthly until I pointed out that wouldn’t work. Last month I emailed and asked for script 3 days early as I was going on holiday. Later that day text from chemist to say ready for collection. Brilliant service. I cannot believe your hospital team won’t insist.

My prescription comes when I request it. I do not have a regular delivery as I do not know how much insulin or how many test strips I will use. Whilst it would be convenient doing a monthly trip to the pharmacist, I know this would be wasteful for me. "On request" suits me and provides the flexibility I need.

I'm not lying @becca59

At the time I even sent my monthly order to the gp in a few days early, and everything was prescribed bar the Libre.

As I said it was resolved when I got a couple replaced by Abbott when they fell off early, so it's not a problem any longer.

The gp won't prescribe more than one at a time so I just have to order twice a month. Bit of a pain however better than nothing.

Do you have a hospital based diabetes team?
I asked because, when my GP prescribed only one vial of insulin at a time, my hospital based DSN contacted my GP, pointed out how silly this was and my prescription was changed to 3 vials. In my experience, GPs will listen to experts more than patients, So, it may be worth getting your DSN to argue your case for two Libre per prescription.
Apologies if you have already tried this. I don’t mean to teach you to suck eggs.

Only had any dealings with hospital when my a1c was high. They didn't adjust my meds but wrote to my gp with suggestions and gp took it from there. Only interaction I really have with diabetic nurse is annual review.
