I am going to be in the UK next week and was planning on buying lots of Low Carb foods ( crackers, brownies etc), and basic ingredients that I cannot find here. Locally they really have next to nothing! I noticed that low carb bread is very popular... Cannot wait to try it!!! Are there any other products that you think are highlights or a great treat? Ketchup... Is there a good Low carb ketchup?
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Not sure where you are but I don’t think we have that many genuinelumlow carb ready made options despite marketing claims on some items.

I don’t use ketchup so can’t help much but heinz do a low sugar version - no idea of the carbs or what they replaced the sugar with. And it’s important to check that. Crackers the only real low carb I’ve found are the marks and Spencer’s seed ones but they haven’t been stocked locally in a while. Bread seems to be the Waitrose livlife or hovis hi lo. Again very seeded and tiny slices. Watch out for the wraps if you find them as low sugar and even lower carb on the advertising often means a very minimal reduction in carbs for a significant rise in price. Never seen a low carb brownie/cake etc in the supermarkets, only online.

Almond flour is available as ground almonds but cheaper online. Same with coconut flour (check the carbs as they vary enormously with coconut flour for some reason - it should be under 20g/100g -don’t forget you use about a quarter of it compared to other flours). Xanthum gum is typically found in the “free from” sections. Sweeteners like stevia and erythritol can be found in larger or specialist shops but check they haven’t got bulking agents like maltodextrin or dextrose in them. Again cheaper online.

Thank you so much for the tips.. Very interesting that some items that say low carb are not as low as one expected. I am in France and I can get all the popular sugar substitutes like Candarel and Stevia, but no low carb bread, crackers, jelly, brownies etc. Even testers and strips .....there is a very limited choice, which surprised me... Mind you they don't have much in the way of regular jelly either! Very excited about the Heinz low sugar ketchup!!

Good luck. I don’t know where to get any low carb anything.

I make my own bread, I buy wholemeal flour, Rye and some seeded flours. I mix my own mixed seeds and add to the bread mix. I will use almond flour to substitute for other flours. All chemistry, I am a good cook, so trying all sorts of combinations.
