I was really tired last night and fell asleep before taking my basal. A member of my household said they woke me and I got up and did it but I can't remember (!!!) and haven't logged it in my phone. Since 9:30PM until breakfast my Libre graph was pretty constant at about 5.1 mmol/L (with the normal minor fluctuations). I had a spike at breakfast, but that's normal as well and since that went down the BG has been stable in the 5s again. I guess maybe I did take the dose last night and just can't remember which is a bit weird because I thought I had a good memory haha. Anyway I guess I just keep monitoring. Edit: if I can get up and inject myself without remembering I wonder what else I do when I think I'm asleep!

I think we've all done this!

There are a couple of useful tricks to avoid this though. :)

If your basal (or bolus!) is one of the NovoNordisk insulins, Tresiba or Levemir, you can ask for a Novopen 5, 6 or Echo, which has a little display on top which remembers your last dose.
If your bolus is Fiasp or NovoRapid you can use it in those pens as well. I do, and I'm very happy with it. It's so often that I have the pen in my hand wondering if I just injected or was about to do so, now I can just check.

For many other insulin pens you can order a Timesulin cap, which remembers when you last took the cap off the pen.

And the simplest trick: Use one of those medication boxes with a small compartiment for each day. Put a needle in each compartiment and you can simply see if the needle is still there or not.

Hi,

I did this many years ago sharing a hotel room with a bass player whilst on tour?
We got totally hammered after a gig & I awoke thinking did I do my Lantus.. My room mate vaguely remembered me fiddling with “some pen thing.”
This was pre sensor days.. My BGs were great..

I switched my tresiba from bedtime to first thing in the morning. Specifically for this reason. Horrendous when you can't remember, especially if alcohol involved.
Also I use novopen echo plus, which has digital display of last dose time and amount.
Haven't had this problem since.

Funny you mention that. Day off today. Had a few last night. Reading your post, I can’t remember doing mine last night.

Oddly the trend on my CGM setup suggests I did. I even woke at 3.9.

I think somethings are so routine…

If your numbers are fine, I wouldn't worry about it. I always write down the time I take any insulin. I take my basal in the morning when I am alert, always around 8:00 a.m. When I bolus, I also write down the food eaten, and of course on this daily diary I also record my blood sugar readings. I'm old school and prefer paper and pen to gadgets but I truly appreciate my finger-prick glucose meter.
