I’ve recently been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes, my Htp1 (or whatever it is lol) was 96 at diagnosis - I understand it’s pretty high.
I’ve overhauled my diet and have lost about a stone.
I’ve just started taking Metformin but I am getting very constipated! I’m eating a fair amount of fruit and fibre but it’s mainly since I started the Metformin.
Is this normal?
Any advice for me?

Welcome. Can't comment on metformin as I don't take it, but are you drinking plenty of liquids, and are you on any other medication? Some BP meds commonly cause it. The blood test is HbA1c. It took me a few months to get that right!

Hi yep plenty of water and your body should adjust. Take care with the fruit and veg as these have carbs and could keep your hba1c high. As a rule of thumb eat fruit with the word ‘berries’ in it (raspberries, blueberries etc), only a few and veg that grow above the ground there again limit them to a couple of handfuls a day but not necessary. I hardly eat any veg now and my BG has improved.

Hi, like you I have been recently diagnosed, but not sure which type yet. I'm on metformin and have lost a stone in weight which I don't kneed. My bg was 80 first time but after 3 months has only gone down to 74 so now testing for 1.5 LADA . I have problems with constipation too and put it down to eating less cerieal and potatoes and veg. Got a laxative from gp to take when need be. Hope all goes well for you.x

Thanks all for your advice.
I agree, I’m probably not drinking enough water so I’ll try to address that. I’m not on any other meds, just the Metformin.
I’ve just looked up 1.5 LADA, had not heard of it before.
I saw my diabetic nurse today, she told me as I get used to Metformin this symptom might subside. She has put me on a diabetic dietary course which will help.
I’m buying one of those water bottles with goals on it to inspire me to drink more water.
Xx
