Hi @katy24 and dad, welcome to the forum.

Sure we have tips on do's for food! :)
Does your dad like bacon and eggs for breakfast? Cream in his coffee or on strawberries for dessert?

With diabetes, it's the carbs that are problematic, so the easy way is to reduce them and replace by more of the fats and proteins. So less potatoes, more meat and veggies, and adding a knob of butter to the veggies makes them very tasty. A rich pasta sauce or curry on a vegetable of choice. A portion of cheese or pork scratchings instead of crisps or cake.

Here's a thread where we share what we eat, you might find it interesting, and over time it has given me lots of meal ideas as well: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-today-low-carb-forum.75781/page-2858

Good luck, and come back with any questions!
Any chance your dad would be interested in joining himself?

Hi thanks for the quick reply.he has a very sweet tooth and used to make his own cakes etc but we've cut all that out but would be good to know any suggestions of what he can have? Loves his pasta. there's only so many meals of meat and veg that you can do before bordom sets in so any help there would be good!

He'd love to join but not very savvy with apps and forums Hence me asking

If he likes baking, there is a whole world of low carb cakes to be discovered!
Just use google for any type of cake and include the words 'keto' or 'low carb'. :)

I'm sorry about the pasta. I absolutely love bread in all its many forms, and I also love crisps. I love my eyes, toes, and kidneys more though.
I don't agree that meals without pasta/potatoes/rice are more boring than meals with those components though.

There is a lot of difference between diabetics in how many carbs they can handle. Some do well on over 100 grams of carbs, which can easily include a reduced portion of pasta, others find they need to go very low in carbs to keep their blood glucose in the normal or prediabetic range.
We also have members who choose some assistance from medication to have a bit more wiggle room with the carbs even though they could make it work on very low carb.

The thing they all have in common is using a glucose meter so they know what happens and can adjust their food choices guided by their meter.

Have you had a look at the 'What have you eaten today' thread I linked above? There's lots of variety there, and it's not at all as if we eat a plate of boiled veggies with a piece of meat every day. In fact, I hardly ever eat that.
