Splitting bolus

Hi, I’m sorry if this has been covered before but I have only just been made aware of this site.
I am hoping that someone can help me. I have recently started using Lyumjev and whilst it has been great for me I am experiencing highs about 2 hours after I inject. Basically I can see the rise but the insulin keeps it within range and then 2 hours later it rises so I’m wondering if anyone else splits their bolus and if so do they do it at a 50/50 split or other.
It’s driving me mad

Welcome @Fliss78 I am on Fiasp not Lyumjev. However I regularly split doses. A lot will depend on the meal type, but for most meals I take an up front dose, then complete it an hour later. Pizza 3-4 doses. The actual way I split also depends on where my glucose readings are at the time. Lower readings my split will be a small % then the rest later. But higher readings my % will be bigger and the remainder later. I suppose I’m trying to emulate a pump more as this works better for me.

Much like @becca59 I split my bolus doses (Novorapid), and in the same vein it depends on how much I'm eating, what it is and what my blood glucose is doing beforehand.

The reason I started splitting was that I'd go low immediately after eating my supper, treat the low and then end up going high later in the evening and overnight. I tend to take ~50-60% of my supper dose up front (and sometimes a couple of units extra ~1 hour pre-supper if I'm running a bit high or heading up) then the remainder of the dose over the next 2-4h depending on what I've eaten - I may also need to correct over this duration if I've misjudged the total carbs (which is now less of a worry as I can tweak with 2-3U injections over the course of the evening)

Thank you. I have never split my injections before and was worried about stacking. I am being put forward for a pump so wanted to tighten things up and starting a new insulin hasn’t helped because my ratios have changed slightly as well. It’s never easy is it!?

I’m on Lyumjev & the same as the others I also regularly split doses.

But it was pure trial & error to get the split correct to suit my body’s needs a lot will depends on the meal type & how fast your body absorbs its carbs

If the 2nd injection time of the split means it may stack for me the only way round it is NOT to have any correction insulin with the next meal just insulin for the carbs in the meal

it’s not perfect but it works for me

Indeed, all part of the fun! :)

I stack/correct all day (especially if I WFH and I'm hungry - so I suppose this is perhaps a potential disadvantage!), but I keep track of insulin/carbs/CGM data using XDrip+, which makes working out what you still have in your system much easier than writing things down and makes it easy to stack/correct at will.

I stack every day, only way to keep me below 20
