Hello,
I’m sorry, I know it’s late but I really would appreciate some advice from anyone who has a CareSens Dual Meter, please.
It was working fine up until I was ready to test, before bed but then went weird on me. Batteries were replaced only a couple of weeks ago and test strips are well in date, so I’m trying to reset it, which I’ve done in the past but this time, it’s just sending me round and round, in a loop. I can get the year, date, time etc done but just once I’ve gone through all that, it suddenly reverts to zero showing on the screen and when I try to get to the flashing drip on the screen, it takes me straight back to the beginning of setting the date, year etc.
Is there anyone at all, who can tell me what I’m doing wrong, please because as a .type 1 diabetic, I’m nervy of going through the night not knowing what my blood sugar levels are.
Thank you for reading.

I have no experience with this meter, and my reply is a long shot, only replying because of the time of day.
Have you tried turning it off and inserting a teststrip?
Never mind date and time, you want to know what your BG is. Most meters turn into test mode when you insert a strip if you do so when it's turned off.

Good luck!

O.M.G. You are a lifesaver. I tried that and the first time it didn’t work but the second time, lo and behold up came my flashing drip sign and my test is done. I thought I had to reset it when it was playing up, so didn’t think to skip that and just put the strip in whilst it was off. Just call me dumb!!
Antje77, I can’t tell you how grateful I am to you. I was starting to panic and was prepared to sit up all night, if necessary, too worried about going to sleep.
Thank you once again.

aylalake, I must re-iterate how grateful I was to Antje77, last night. Without this forum, I honestly don’t think I’d have slept at all, last night. Had it been in the daytime, I’d have had several options, to source help but late at night, I had practically given up……until I remembered this site. I hadn’t really expected a reply so late but thought it worth a go. I did sleep well, once my meter was working again and when I awoke, this morning, my first thought was of the help that I got from Antje77. Award that guy a Blue Peter badge…a gold one!!!

I'm off to google what a Blue Peter badge is. :hilarious:
Very happy to have been of help. :)

So here's your assignment for today: Get a spare meter in case you lose this one, or it breaks.
You can contact your diabetes nurse to ask for one, or if that's too much hassle, you can order one online yourself. Most meters are 10-20 £. You can also try and call the manufacturer, explain your old meter is acting up and maybe they'll send you a new one for free. In my experience, they often do, which makes sense because they don't want you to switch to a different meter and lose the income for your teststrips.

edit: I looked it up and it has a sailing ship on it! :joyful: I'm a sailor so I love it!

Ha-ha. You must be psychic. Getting a spare meter, was the first thing I decided to do this morning.
I did have a spare one but when the Ukraine war broke out and thousands were fleeing, one of the first things that came into my mind, was how diabetics would be struggling without essential kit to hand. I then found a diabetes charity, who were collecting supplies, to send out on aid lorries. I filled a small cardboard box with one box of everything I had, in the way of needles, lancets etc plus a new (my then, spare) test kit, plus cotton wool, Fruit Pastilles etc and sent that off. Even if it helped just one person, it was worth it. I can’t imagine anything more frightening, than fleeing for your life, not being able to look after your diabetes needs, properly.
So that’s my little tale, of how I ended up with no spare, last night. I should have replaced it sooner but forgot.
