Hi guys,

I'm just looking for some advice for my father who has had Type1 for 30+ years but recently is struggling to manage his readings and subsequently having more and more hypos.

We have him set up with Libre 2 and the reader as he doesn't have a smartphone but now the clinic is asking for live readings so we've set him up with an old smartphone. However he seems to be struggling with the phone and keeps forgetting to have the phone on his person.

I was kinda hoping that we could use a smart watch which would be easier for him to remember but I'm not sure if they will work independently of the phone and alleviate the need to carry the smartphone.

Hopefully someone here can advise

Many thanks

My answer is to do with getting information to the Diabetes Clinic. Does you father use a desktop/laptop? If you download a LibreView app to his computer (or yours), then you can download data from the reader (via a cable). LibreView will ask for your father's email address and the Clinic's reference number. The Diabetes Clinic will give him the reference number to enter, and you/he could do the download once a week, or whatever frequency the Clinic prefers to keep an eye on your father's blood glucose readings. These will not be live readings, but I suppose you could download daily readings. Just ask your father to use the reader several times a day.

No unfortunately not....76 years old and they are both survivors of never touching a mouse or keyboard in their life....these people do still exist

It's just trying to find an easy solution for him to get alerts should he forget his phone.

Annoying because Apple Watch or other smart watches do seem to have NFC built in so I was hoping they could be used independently

Well, I am older than your father, but I'm used to computers from my working life. (although not now keeping up with technology). It may well be that if he does not have an email address but you live close enough, it can be set up with your email. Another thing is that the Diabetes Clinic may be happy to download the information when he has an appointment. My clinic did that years ago when I first self-funded Libre. I think the clinic nurses will be too busy to look at live data, so historical data will be sufficient. Good luck.

Someone else will, no doubt, answer your smart watch question.

Sorry no disrespect meant but unfortunately they have never had the need to use one in their working life so starting now is foreign to them and myself working in IT and know plenty of 'older' users using IT it's hard.

I was going to download the results from his receiver and fire to the clinic but after a bad period, they've asked for it live. The phone is working but he's struggling to interact with the phone and forgetting to carry it.

Would be ideal if a watch would work independently but I'm thinking all they will do is mirror so he would still need to carry the phone

At the moment looks like he's struggling with the phone and not reading. The app today showing only one logbook entry and going sky high
