£65 per sensor is rather expensive. In my area (South Yorkshire) it has been impossible for me to get CGM system on prescription you have to be type 1, at present i pay privately around £65 per fortnight but dont have extremely sore finger ends.
Yep - I get mine direct from Abbotts - just under £50 per sensor with the VAT exemption (that reminds me I need to order my next one)£65 per sensor is rather expensive.
Do you pay the VAT? As someone with diabetes, you can tick the VAT exempt box which will reduce the cost.
Hi there. I'm T2 for 20 yrs and am in Suffolk.Hi everyone is there anyone who is type 2 on insulin who has tried to get the CGM system on prescription
I'm in Kent and my GP is a diabetes dpecialist which is great for me! But he is also keen to see all his T2s on MDI on Libre, particularly if he thinks they are keen to really manage their diabetes. This same GP even offered me Ozempic prior to my LADA diagnosis when all the oral meds had failed, even though my BMI was way too low, he told me he is happy to bend the rules if he thinks his patient will benefit. They are only guidelines and always open to interpretation (I turned the Ozempic down flat though, thought of that scares me silly!). I think there is definitely room to provide people with a Libre if they are on MDI and finger pricking lots as long as you have a decent GP or endo.Hi there. I'm T2 for 20 yrs and am in Suffolk.
I started Insulin 2 years ago and was finger pricking 6 times a day. I have Fibromyalgia so my nerves in my extremities are very jumpy.
I was buying my Sensors directly from Abbott as and when I could afford to but 6 months ago my Consultant at.the hospital's Diabetic and Endo clinic put these on script for me so they're on my repeats at GP's.
She did say she had to "fight my corner", but as I also have Thyroid issues and she says I'm 100% committed to my Diabetes treatment etc she was able to do this.
I am under the care of the hospital clinic though as basically my GP and their DSN gave up on me as I have a lot of medication allergies and the cocktail of tablets did nothing much for me after years.
The NICE guidelines are tough for this on T2's but they are guidelines and each local Health Authority take their own stance on it.
I'm aware and grateful my Consultant pushed for it as it has changed my life.
Good luck.
It is amazing when you have someone fighting your corner with things isn’t it? I am forever grateful to my Hospital DSN for fighting for mineHi there. I'm T2 for 20 yrs and am in Suffolk.
