Apparently tonight is expected to be a better one for views of the Aurora.
Brooded is the past tense of brood, so you used the correct form of the word there, Antje. It looks and sounds a b it odd, but it is right enough. Cute little things, aren't they? But then, the young are always so much more attractive looking than their parents.A few months back a friend got an 'ergonomical chair' at work, paid for by her boss.
Yesterday I've spent 7 hours (except for getting up every 20 minutes to get some circulation in my numb limbs) in full concentration painting around the windows and the edges of where the different colours meet.
Mind, the surface isn't horizontal, and this is the only position in which it works. Visions of ergonomical chairs started happening after about 3 hours.
Proud of my work though, I'm pretty good at painting those edges.

And look what was suddenly in the garden today!
The 4 chicks have 2 mums because they brooded (bred? @LivingLightly , help me out here!) together, let's hope they'll survive!

And I pay for yoga classes to be able to sit like that!Yesterday I've spent 7 hours (except for getting up every 20 minutes to get some circulation in my numb limbs) in full concentration painting around the windows and the edges of where the different colours meet.
We has loads of stars but no Aurora. Because we're trying to let our eyes adjust we walked to a local nature reserve In the dark with no torches. That was an experience in itself! No broken limbs luckily but some bramble scratchesI went out to look for the Aurora last night but there weren't even any stars so I was disappointed. Maybe tonight.
That's the kind of friend to have! @Antje77My friend is a genius!
I was telling her about trending low, especially on nights spent with Tale, but in general as well. I've been titrating my basal insulin down over the past months from a minimum of 98 units to currently 64, which is still slightly too much. I suppose working a physical job has something to do with it, and I think I've lost some more weight as well.
Crisps are a good way to prevent or treat nighttime hypos because they work for a long time (and because I love crisps of course!). The problem is dosing the crisps, especially late at night after having some drinks. Having a handful of crisps and then putting the bag away just isn't a thing really.
My friend told me to buy those small single portion bags of crisps, but in the Netherlands they are only sold in large bags with different flavours, including the yucky flavours.
You can buy the portion bags at gas stations, swimming pools, pubs etc, but there they are as expensive as a large bag in the supermarket.
Anyway, I told my friend all of this, and yesterday I came home after a very long workday to find that the mailman had hidden a mysterious package under the rose bushes!
Look what a perfect present!![]()

Sorry to be slow to respond@Antje77. Yes, they brooded together. Is the mum on the right of your photo a turkey?A few months back a friend got an 'ergonomical chair' at work, paid for by her boss.

How did your friends know their hen was broody? @AnnbWe had friends who gave a chicken some duck eggs to sit on when she became broody. She raised her little family very successfully but nearly died herself when the brood eventually decided it was time to swim. They jumped into a stream, she panicked running around like the proverbial headless chicken and eventually jumped into the stream to get them out. Our friend had to rescue her.
She was trying to sit on a clutch of hens' eggs but they had no cockeral so that wasn't going to give a result. They swapped the eggs for duck eggs because they did have a drake and there was a good chance they were fertile eggs. How did your friends know their hen was broody? @Annb
Ducks and ducklings are programmed to seek water. I've known a pair of wild ducks sit in a washing up bowl when there was no other water available!
Both mums are turkeys, and so are the chicks.Sorry to be slow to respond@Antje77. Yes, they brooded together. Is the mum on the right of your photo a turkey?
Our decking needs total replacement. Just got an estimate for it, but since I'm at risk of going through it in one or two places now.....time to bite the bullet. What an amazing sunny day today but meant that I felt urgent need to tidy the garden. This time of year all the spring bulbs have done their bit but now look straggly and no colour in the garden. So bit the bullet and headed to the garden centre and spent too much! I also got my tomato plants but will bring indoors overnight for a bit longer until plant out. I've read that overnight temperatures need to be consistently over 10 before tomatoes planted outdoors and noticed there is a dip in temps next week so need to be cautious for a while.
I've also been cleaning our decking so it can dry out in time for me to apply decking oil in a few days. Oil needs to dry for a day or two and rain forecast for Sunday so need to strike while the irons hot!
Yikes! I have a partial too. I had the weird situation during lockdown that a tooth moved sideways and the plate wouldn't fit anymore. I was grateful for facemasks as I couldn't get it remade. When I was eventually able to see my dentist, even he was surprised at what had caused the misfit.Mixed day.
Started with some bad dental news. My plate (partial denture) has broken and won't be fixed before we go on holiday Tuesday. It was only mended in February and I'm trying to say that repair obviously wasn't fit for purpose. Trying for an appointment to discuss options, all of which will have an expensive price tag. How come dentists seem to be above consumer law? Grrr!
Meant to do gardening, but with holiday looming and doing nothing that will need any care for a few weeks, there's not actually that much to do except weeding and keeping the lawn cut.
Instead we walked to a pub some way away for lunch outside, 1st of the year.
Then back for an appointment with a solicitor re wills that need redoing.
Next feeling was smugness as I conjured up a tasty meal from leftovers now on day 3. Fridge emptying down nicely ready for our holiday.
Did I mention we are going on holiday?we are off to Italy, 27°

At this time of year the ferries are usually managing the crossings, unless they break down, of course. Fingers crossed for your niece on Friday. What work is she doing on Uist?@Annb - my niece that lives next door is in Uist all week working. She got the ferry over fine. She was telling me today her ferry is booked for coming back, she's just keeping her fingers crossed it's not cancelled. She's there until Friday.
