My dilemma and the new limitation added to it!!!

Type 2 diabetic using insulin and Ozempic
High blood pressure using 3 meds for it
Many food intolerances-- known and unknown ones
0 teeth -taking a long long long time to heal
Extremely limited food budget and options
Very overweight but slowly losing weight
Very limited exercise due to leg pain and swelling and feet swelling

So the new limitation?
Just been diagnosed with high cholesterol and given a non- statin med

My confusion---

What in the world do I eat now?

One of my tolerable foods is high in cholesterol!!
I'm aware that now they say food cholesterol isn't the only cause but I also read that the meds should go along with a lower fat and lower cholesterol diet.
But when I looked into this it was a completely anti diabetic type diet --mostly carbs. Such as
legumes like lentils, beans, nuts, etc. They aren't tolerated by my body either.

I totally am lost.

hi @cdpm - nice to see you again, although I am really sorry your food issues continue to plague you. Food is a big deal for all of us with insulin resistance based type two, as it's part of any decent treatment plan, (as food is a big issue for everyone really) but you have such multiple issues, it's even more so for you, I think.

Your situation is so complex, and your health stakes so high, I continue to say what is a very rare sentence from me! But that's - in your case, I think you do need the ongoing help and support from a dietician/nutritionist from your local diabetes department. You have already been in contact I take it, via your GP/diabetes team?

We can be your support group for sure, but the details of your treatment plan really need to be with the professionals now?

My understanding of healthy LCHF is that the F part - the fat - is a crucial part of that way of eating. You don't need to see it as high, as much as healthy, which is how some LCHF health professionals in my home country talk about it (low carb healthy fat), basically in order not to freak out everyone who was introduced to the lipid/cholesterol and cardio vascular health theory in the 70s on, which is in fact, all of us currently on the planet.

My understanding is that a LCHF T2D treatment plan is not really compatible with a low cholesterol from food treatment plan. If you are going the conventional treatment route, then you are in a perfect position to get the help that the current dietary recommendations support. And when you are in/and you already in? the system, they should be helping you with your gum issues, and food issues and so on.

What do you reckon?

I haven't been in touch with a diabetic team professional for 2 plus years. I went a few times at first but never found them to be supportive.
I went for help with gum food issues and was told to eat ice cream. And given print outs from online that I could have gotten myself. I guess they can't offer more in 10 minute appts.
So I'm not getting any help really.
That seems to be the way it goes in Canada for many people.

Ah - @cdpm - I'm sorry to hear about the previous lack of support you got from a diabetes team in your home country.

My feeling is then, it's back to your GP/medical practice and ask to be referred to a diabetes specialist nutritionist at your nearest hospital.

With specialists, especially with your complex situation, I would be very surprised if you didn't get at least a full hour appointment, in fact, it could mean you are in your local hospital's diabetes division for an entire morning or afternoon as you go from specialist to specialist. As you have been identified as being a cardio vascular risk (with the cholesterol concern and the new prescription of statins), I cannot imagine that your GP/medical centre won't refer you now to the Diabetes division (or whatever it is called). And the gum care would be a part of that? Especially as gum and teeth health is about eating.

I hear you on the lack of emotional support. We are here for you, and you know that you can come back in here after your appointments, and talk about how it went with us - absolutely.

And while you wait for your specialist/diabetes nutrionist appointment - you could go to your local library, and armed at home with your laptop, do your own nutrition research? Because no-one knows your situation like you do. And of course, this Forum and website is a great place to do research also, although I have noticed this has changed enormously in the last few years, with both the major English language Forums. Sadly.

But trust me - the avenues to research the lipid theory for cardio vascular health is vast! As is nutritional information.

Otherwise, focus on getting specialist care? Is my thoughts on the matter at least.

Plus my specialist as nice as he is. Has only ever been interested in my a1c. Despite me telling him I'm only in range maybe 20 percent of the time. No lows.
I've given up on help there.
The diabetic team wants doses, numbers, meals eaten, times. It's completely overwhelming for me. And they got very upset when I did try to only eat 50 grams of carbs a day.
I have a lot way too much already to deal with. I don't need the negativity too.
This is truly the only place to receive help even just ears and eyes on my posts.
