Free trial -rejected :(

I've just applied for the Freestyle lIbre free trial and been turned down. It gives me a link to the criteria required but I can't see it. Does anyone know what the criteria is ?
 
The only information I can find is from their T&C's on the website which states the criteria as below;

2.3 The campaign is open to:

(a) people with diabetes aged 18 years or over who reside in the United Kingdom. Under 18s cannot participate in this campaign. This campaign is also open to parents/guardians of children with diabetes under the age of 18 and over the age of four;

(b) people who have not used or trialed the FreeStyle Libre 2 system;

(c) people who are not eligible to receive the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus Sensor on prescription; and

(d) people who have a mobile device compatible with the FreeStyle LibreLink app. Please check the device compatibility guide, which can be found here

Are you planning to use a CGM after the trial?

The Dexcom One+ is currently the cheapest CGM for the long-term. This summer they are launching a new CGM called Stelo for Type 2 diabetics with a 15 day sensor. See https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/th...with-a-continuous-glucose-monitor-cgm.204410/

Abbott are also launching a new CGM for type 2 and non-diabetics called Lingo. We don't know the price of these compared to Libre 2 plus, but I would expect it to be cheaper.

If you decide to go down the Dexcom route and you're an Android user, please check carefully as there are very limited phones that they're compatible with

Hmmmm. Years ago when I was self funding Libres. I put in for the trial of Libre2s when they came out.

No joy. Polite notice saying I was ineligible..
 
I, also, applied for a free trial after I had been self-funding for some time, thinking one free sensor would be nice. I was turned down.

No, Libre can be used by anyone. And are used by people without diabetes, for example, on the Zoe trial.
I have no idea what the Lingo is as all Libre does it report your BG.
The version which was targeted at athletes, the sensor was the same as Libre but the application was more specific to training.
Maybe the same will be true for the "type 2 Libre"- same sensor but more "type 2 insights" from the app.

I am, only guessing though.

You have already used it, so failed to satisfy this part of the criteria (emphasis is mine)

(b) people who have not used or trialed the FreeStyle Libre 2 system;

I'm guessing there are just trying to get new users who may continue to buy the sensors after the trial and figure that if you have used before you have probably already made your mind up.

£300 for 4 sensors seems to be around the same price at the moment, but that could change later.

I must admit, I don't really understand the UK Lingo . I know in the US the FDA don't allow Abbott to sell the Libre over the counter, so Abbott have launched the Lingo there which, as far as I can tell, appears to be the libre with a different app missing some features like alarms to distinguish it from the diabetic one. But in the UK anyway can buy the libre so I don't see the point.

You are quite correct..

I was scroring Libres (self funded.) from Asda pharmacy at the time.
I was eligible to get them VAT exempt, which meant they scanned a barcode in a ring binder on purchase.
At the time people were waiting for the L2. It was only available in Germany.
I bought 2 Libres, one of which to my surprise when I got home was the L2.
I was also using the Miaomiao 2 as a BT bridge with the L1.
It took a fair but of setting up with the MKII sensor. I don’t like having to open an app to get readings.
Preferring a readout readily available on the Home or lock Screen.

Sneaky really..
I can only assume Abbott have access to Libreview online? ;)
 
They changed their minds, I got one . I feel like I'm in a sci-fi film

It's a real eye opener! Makes me pay attention
 
There are reviews popping up on YouTube for the new Dexcom Stelo - looks interesting, seems quite geared toward T2 and pre-diabetics in that it gives automatic "insights" - like glucose spikes that you can tag - like "just ate doughnut" or "surprisingly caused by an apple".. so that you can build up a picture of effect of different things, rather than simply holding your BG in range.

Seems about the same cost as a Freestyle L2 - at least in the UK, but could be less of a barrier to purchase in some locations.

I also read the lingo website, and found the greatest difference between Lingo and Libre is the app.

OK maybe there is a point but I dont know much about the Lingo. I have used FL2 and FL3 for years. Well FL3 for the last year. I just buy them sporadically becasue I am type 2 - no prescription. However I just started a FL3 yesterday which has failed and Abbott helpline say they will replace but I am naughty for buying it and they wont help me out again if I buy again! So maybe the point of the Lingo is that it streams with Bluetooth and is available to buy. I dont need alarms. Is there any difference with the lingo? Or the app? I better do some research! I wonder if it has the GMI thing like the FL3 app??

OK i didnt realise there was libre 2+ which has bluetooth! Going to order some of them.

What is the benefit of the 3 then?!! Weird!
