"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Mention of butchers reminds me of the other day, when in a second hand book shop the father of a10 year old had found an old joke book and they were having fun reading them out loud. However it all went quiet when one joke had the a punch line about a butcher weighing sausages. The boy did not know that butchers handled meat, and that sausages could be bought to order and wrapped. He only knew supermarket meat in plastic containers. And he seemed a bright chap, just not part of his world. :(
Perhaps his parents buy everything in supermarkets @MrsA2. It's common here in London. Butchers are a dying breed.

It never ceases to amaze me if the daytime quiz shows are on in the background, the things that "youngsters" just don't know (or are capable of working out). I still think the worst one I heard was in response to "What travel company was founded in 1841?"

The answer she gave was "British Airways". It was, of course, Thomas Cook. How she didn't realise jets were not going about in 1841, I don't know.

We've just had a butcher reopened after Tesco successfully managed to put the three that had been there previously out of business. They succeeded by having a butcher in store (also a deli counter and a fishmonger). Once the competition closed down, they also closed their counters and reverted to pre packed stuff.

I go to a very good butcher a couple of miles along the coast.

Sunday 1 September. Despite my continuing gout issue, I managed to get grandson to his swimming. He was very helpful and carried the bags. It's a lot better. I reckon maybe one or two more days on colchicine should remove the last of the pain. It does still look rather horrible in colour. That will take a few weeks to go completely.

B. TAG, Benecol Dairy Free and a sandwich with SRSLY bread - roast pork & philly.

L. Nothing

D. A well diluted campari and soda. A diet doctor recipe. Lamb chops marinated in Thai red curry with creamy, cheesy cauliflower and green beans. I could not be bothered mashing the cauliflower to a fine texture. I used parmesan in it for a change. It was rather nice.
Scoop of Halo Top with raspberries. 20240901_180852.jpg

Youngsters I understand - to them 1950 was ancient history. I am ancient history. It's older folk who don't have any idea about when things happened, even what those things were. Example: on a TV quiz show about 3 weeks ago a question was asked about when William 1 of England came to the throne. Not one of the adults there knew or connected him with the big battle of 1066. I imagined everyone brought up in Britain had that name and date off pat, without thinking about it. I'll bet Em could tell me.

2 scrambled eggs and ham before a walk then coffee with friends.
L: seedy crackers with pate or blue cheese (some of each). Mini ice cream.
D: salad made from half a packet lentils, cucumber and left over chicken. Served in lettuce boats. Hubby had his in wraps.. Raspberries with yoghurt and cream.

Remember that date I had a week ago?
A second date has been had last saturday, and I've had more interesting conversations on all kinds of topics than I've had in ages (except with all of you of course), both online and in real life.

But what a mess, why is the most interesting person on that whole stupid dating site married?

I also had an appointment with the rheumathologist today, she still thinks something is going on but no more tests available to know exactly what, so take NSAID's if needed (haven't needed them in weeks thankfully), call if swollen joints for longer than a week or two, otherwise another appointment in a year.
Still, it was a good appointment and I agree with what she said.

In the afternoon I had an appointment with someone who may be able to support me in finding a job that suits me. Another good appointment, but I'm knackered after an hour and a half of talking, followed by a very long and complex chat with this date.

Tomorrow morning I'll have an appointment with the neurologist to discuss the results of the MRI of my neck.
So I'll need to go to bed if I want to catch something like enough sleep, and have my morning swim before the appointment as well.

I even managed to cook between all those goings on!

Just typical of the way the big chains operate I'm afraid @maglil55. If the current trend continues, high streets up and down the country will all look the same. It's the independent shops that make a shopping centre worth visiting.

Have you asked him? And what does his wife think of it all? Have you asked her, not just taken his word about it?
Imho, and probably very old fashioned view, that would be a real red flag. It might depend what sort of dating site of course? Not prying just musing aloud.
Nothing wrong in being friends with an interesting person, but if your gut feel is concerned, trust your gut.
I'd hate to see you hurt again so soon.

Complex situation (according to him, we've only met twice and his wife doesn't know).
I like him, and I'd be perfectly happy with a friendship, which isn't likely to happen exactly because of the way we met. No matter how benign our intentions, it will look just wrong.

My gut feeling isn't concerned about him at all, I'm pretty sure he's just trying to find his way in life and struggling a bit, and I'm pretty sure he'll leave the dating site soon to focus on his relationship, which is the best thing he can do, The only reason he hasn't left yet is that we aren't finished talking yet.

Appointment with the neurologist this morning went well. It is possible that my symptoms are caused by those narrow canals, but it could be unrelated as well. Neurologist suspects diabetes being the cause of some nerve damage, which is possible but I find it unlikely, considering my numbers.
She doesn't know enough about diabetes to understand the difference between diabetics who are very well controlled according to their doctor and diabetics who have non diabetic numbers pretty much all the time. Not her fault, not her specialism, I'll discuss it with my endo next time I see her.

Not much she can do about it either way, it could get better slowly, it could get worse, it could stay the same.
She gave me the choice between another appointment in a few months or me contacting her should things change, which makes more sense to me.
So a bit defeated but nothing I didn't expect, I'll get used to it.

Breakfast: some left over haddock (cooked yesterday) with some shop-made mayo and a slice of RyVita. Mayo tasted horrible. Should just have made my own, but couldn't be bothered. Just wondering if I can doctor the jar of mayo to make it taste better. Followed by a few berries and double cream. BG has been high since the middle of the night. It was fine when I went to bed but I must have done something wrong because it peaked at 13.4 around 03.00. Still around 11.0 despite insulin and breakfast.

2nd meal will be either steak or lamb chops, depending on what Neil managed to get in the shopping today. He just put it all in the back porch fridge so I haven't been out there to check yet.

A bit of grain mustard maybe? Or a splash of good olive oil? I'd suggest trying a bit mixed outside before adding to a whole jar.
Somewhere I have a brownie recipe that uses mayo but it probably has proper sugar as it's not an lc recipe.
I think the problem is too much mustard so may add some lemon and/or some EV olive oil.

Just had my fillet steak with some spinach. Very nice - could have eaten twice as much, the steak was very small but thick. Spinach left over for breakfast tomorrow.

2 scrambled eggs
Double dancing
L: egg wraps with ham, lettuce and blue cheese. A small packet of dark chocolate covered almonds with Seasalt. On offer this week at Sainsbury's. Too good. About 12g carbs per pack (30g per 100g)

D: burger and a half in lettuce wraps with cheese and avar sauce. Small coffee ice cream

Monday 2 September - back to school again. Sad news today, too. Son & DIL'S big leonberger will be put to sleep on Thursday. That's him about 3 years ago. He's the nicest dog ever, but he has cancer, and the vet reckons it's time. Boys are desperately upset. We all are, but it is affecting his breathing now. The vet is going to their home, which keeps him in familiar surroundings, plus he's quite poorly. He's been there the boys' entire lives, so they'll find it really hard.

B. TAG and Benecol dairy free.

L. SRSLY sandwich with ham and mustard.

D. Remains of yesterday's dinner. The remaining gigot chop and the remains of the creamy cauliflower. Last scoop of Halo Top.

Today 3 September. Finally stopped the colchicine and reverted to my normal medication pattern. Swelling had gone, and it's only a little tender. However, my toe will be maroon for a while yet.

B. TAG

L. Benecol dairy free and 2 slices of SRSLY toast with ham and philly.

D. Gammon steak with broad beans, squash, and a mix of spinach, tomato, and mushrooms. I left quite a lot of the veg.

We're going out on Friday (I could do with a break). We're eating out them going to see the music of Fleetwood Mac by candlelight. Screenshot_20240903_175920_Facebook.jpg20240903_185136.jpg

Em's Newfie/alsation cross is living on borrowed time now. So far there's just a hint of a maybe of a place for him on the mainland, but no certainty. No hint at all for the "pup" which was said to be an alsation/labrador cross but is clearly an alsation/rottweiler cross. There are no available re-homing places either, apparently. There has been no move so far to take it all further, but they know that time will run out sometime soon. Neither has been classified as a dangerous dog but having attacked, albeit not savagely, they can't be trusted. Certainly not if kept together.

I wondered what the situation was, but I was almost afraid to ask. I couldn't see an update from their last escape.
