I was last on the forum as 2016! Time has flown by. I managed to put my tentative type2D in remission, and with "keep doing low carb & exercise" ringing in my ears, I skipped off. However life has been lifting in all of that time, single parenting for a child with additional needs, homelessness, caring for a mother after a brain haemorrhage, diagnosis of a neuro diversity which made a lot of f-ing sense. Most of these incidents happening since the lock downs. I'm in peri menopause, huge fibroids, weight gain, a recent hernia op and surprise surprise, a hba1c of 51 in Jan 2025 and a recent one of 71 a few days ago.

I am so upset at the situation, it is not like I wasn't aware of the probability, only it is evidence that I have really lost my way in caring for myself. Literally if I don't do it no one else is around to do it.

So hi forum people , you were invaluable 10yrs ago, I am back. I just took a pre lunch BG (as I forgot the "lay in bed, take BG" this am), it was 10.3 . I then made an cheese omelette and 3 item salad (as that is all I have in my fridge). I'll check my 2 hrs post and see where I am.

I'll trundle over to the low carb threads & exercise threads.

Anyone else had this happen??
Thanks for reading

Don't let anyone tell you you're being selfish when you start prioritising some of your own needs. I've had to suppress the self-sacrificing instinct a bit in recent years and not everyone in the family likes the result.

Very similar, I had a prediabetic HbA1c in 2016, went low carb and reversed it by 2018, then spent 7 years not thinking about it. Not had all your challenges but I have elderly parents with a variety of health conditions, a teenage daughter who has now been diagnosed with ADHD and a husband with a lot of health worries. No ND diagnosis for me but I suspect that's on the cards in the next few years too.

I'm also perimenopausal which disguised some of the diabetes symptoms so was astonished to be told in April that my HbA1c (taken as part of a fairly random set of blood tests) was now 113!

I can't test in bed as I have very uncooperative blood vessels but my first reading today was 10.7 and I expect it to stay in double figures until I eat. My liver seems very keen to pump out loads of glucose and I haven't been able to stop it with diet so far.

Wishing you luck and steady progress

Thank you for sharing your experience, a very similar journey.
I had a tooth out yesterday and I'm in pain. Paracetamol doesn't cut it.
I received my test strips and lancets today, so fasting BG tomorrow am. I'll test before my evening meal of roast veggie soup.

Paracetamol seems to do nothing for me either. I read that something like 25% of people get no pain relief from it at all. Unfortunately it's the default and sometimes only painkiller offered now.

Sounds delicious
