I have just been allocated a hybrid system. I am currently using an Omnipod dash to deliver insulin and a freestyle libre 2 plus sensor. I have to make a choice between the 4 options. They are:
1 Medtronic MinMed 780g with a Guardian 4 sensor
2 Tandem T slimx2 with a DexcomG6/G7 sensor
3 Omnipod 5 with a freestyle libre 2 plus sensor
4 my life YpsoPump with a freestyle libre 3 sensor
I am tempted to go with option 3 as it is a similar system to what I am using and is tubeless.
I would welcome any suggestions and recommendations.
Thank you

Honestly if you are already using the Omnipod and like using it my personal opinion would be to say why change what already works for you and stick with it as you already know relatively how the system works so you won’t necessarily need much extra training if any at all. The other 3 options are all tubed pumps as well and if you don’t like tubed pumps you’ve got a long 4 years to be stuck with something you’re not a fan of.

I love my Medtronic 780g and I’ve had the best control I’ve ever had since being in hybrid closed loop with it but previous to looping I already had Medtronic so I’m used to it and enjoy using it. It’s whether you’d be willing to swap to a pump that has tubing rather than a patch pump with the Omnipod.

I don’t know anything about the 4th option and my only gripe with the tandem is you still have to set up basal profiles even in closed loop which whilst I do understand the thinking behind it I much prefer my insulin pump to work it out for me but then again my basal profiles have been way out since I was in my early twenties and I never could get into the right mindset to make them right, having a system that works it out for you just makes life that little bit easier especially for me.

Hi Ianstead

I would agree with Nicola. If you are already used to Omnipod Dash, Omnipod 5 seems like a good choice. I made this swap in February this year. Once the algorithm learned about me and my requirements it has been great.

FOR ME I do not hear the alarms on my PDM overnight. I have profound hearing loss and wear hearing aids When I take my hearings aids out at night I do not hear the alarms. I am currently working with pump team locally to resolve this.

Good luck with your decision making

Another vote for sticking with Omnipod if you're happy with it. It's got its problems (see previous posts of mine), but it's still good.

There is a distinct advantage of it that if you actually hate it enough to want to go tubed, the upfront cost isn't huge compared to the others, so it should be easier to change away.
