Anyone on the Ascend Plus trial?

I'm now on the first week of the 7mg tablets; side effects not too bad! I did feel rather sick on Wednesday but my tai chi class cured that and I've been fine since. Mind you, not a good moment to change the dose as I already had some kind of minor virus. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get on the real thing, not the placebo.... we shall see.

So I started taking the meds on the 7th Nov, my appetite has been considerably reduced, but this only really kicked in last week, guess it takes a while to work. I am going for my Diabetic MOT on the 12th December and I'll keep you posted on the results ..only thing I can say is that I have a bitter taste most of the time at the back of my throat, but so far no other issues. I'm excited where this journey is taking me !!

Are you on the 3mg break in tablets?

I'm now in my 3rd week of the 7mg tablets, and all is going well. I did feel a bit sick the first couple of days, but it soon wore off. My appetite varies - some days I have very little appetite, other days I could eat for England.. But my sister tells me I've lost weight - I never weigh myself, preferring to go by how my clothes feel, and haven't really noticed, myself. I am so hoping I get on the 14mg rather than the placebo, as I'm quite sure my practice won't prescribe me them if I don't, since they won't let me have 1g Metformin tablets, but have to have 2 x 50mg, as I gather this is massively cheaper. Oh well. Another 5 weeks before I find out.

I'm on the 14mg or placebo, positive I'm on the real thing as the bad burping in the morning is a real give away as it is a side effect of the real thing. Also I bought a bg tester and my bg is in the low Normal readings plus the weight loss . Anyway good luck on your journey with the trial as it is a really positive one, for most people.

Just started Randomisation last week. I am sure I am not on the placebo as sickness and constipation got worse. Also struggling to eat some foods. Also feeling full quite easily.
2 months in to Randomisation. Not so nauseous and more hungry so probably placebo but still losing weight but very slowly. 10 kilos lost over the whole trial so far!

Do you have bad burps when you wake up?

Hello Charles. The one thing I found was eating small meals often and taking half of a travel pill (anti-sickness) if I felt nauseous. I hope you get on with them.
Now nearly 2 months into Randomisation.. feeling more hungry and less nauseous so I suspect that I'm on the placebo.
Still losing weight slowly, 10 kilos over the whole trial so far. Blood glucose varies between 5 and 9.
Was able to reduce Metformin to two tablets a day so good news there too!
Generally very happy so far.

If you google the side effects of the 14mg tablets to see if you have any common effects yourself, may be an indication on whether you are on the tablet or placebo. If you check your blood glucose and it is normal that is also a good indication.

Thanks, I'll give it a try

Hello
Does anyone else feel the side effects on 14mg
Thanks mimic pregnancy morning sickness etc? I can’t cope with tea or coffee before about lunchtime and can’t eat either until then. I have given away a few bottles of perfume that I can longer stomach. Don’t get me wrong I am delighted to know for sure that I am obviously not on placebo and in other areas good things are happening, blood sugar is lowering and some weight loss but ugh the nausea! Only on 1st month so hopefully will get better. Thanks. X

Yes, only a few more to take then

Hi, I'm on the 14mg or placebo, the side effects I get are really bad burps when I wake up in the morning i can feel the bloating in my stomach and it has to come up. I can take or leave a alcoholic drink I used to love a drink . I don't think as much about what I want eat next . I still have a sweet tooth but if I have a little too much sweet things I feel quite sickly and wish I hadn't eaten them also I can't eat the amount of food I used to eat. Also there is a very positive side effect the weight loss for me has been great roughly around 2 and a half stones so far roughly around 2lb per week loss to start with it has slown down a bit now but still loosing a bit.

Hi sounds like you are on real thing with those side effects and I agree if I do eat too much I feel quite unwell the next day so not worth it. The constant wondering what I going to eat next is gone thank goodness. My weight loss is slow but my diabetic nurse was very pleased at my last check up with bloods and urine etc so on the whole feel good about it. I have to say Ascend are fantastic at answering any queries and offer a lot of support. Wishing you well on your trial.
