Hi

I was prescribed Glicazide 40mg a few weeks ago.......I'm rapidly gaining weight approx 10 pounds in a month.....help I cant go on like this.....is it normal??...what can I do?

He told me I would gain weight but didnt think it would be this quick.......should I really be gaining this much weight on such a low dose? originally put me on 80mg but I was frequently suffering hypo's (I wear a freestyle monitor).

only tablet I use is metformin and 2 insulins I hate metformin even on one a day from 4. Kept telling my DN I don't want it

I was on Gliclizide for the whole time of my first 11st of weight loss, I still ate low carb whilst on it, what are your BG numbers like? Are you eating differently now you are on it? With my GP support I did reduce my Gliclizide over time & reduced carbs along side that.

My experience was as a lost weight & reduced carbs I had to treat the hypos with carbs which did affect my weight, I eventually came off it & went keto. For me it wasn’t the Glic that gave me weight gain but treating the hypos with carbs. You may need to find your “sweet spot” and get your balance for how many carbs you can eat without gaining weight.

What was your HbA1c? Did the GP explain why they were prescribing you the Gliclizide?

Good to see your wearing libre sensor, are you using the app to mark down exercise/food intake? logs may help to see potential patterns (for lows). You've not said when lows are occuring or if confirmed via fingerprick. if at night research compression lows. i find libre reads lower when laying in bed. With libre should confirm both highs & lows with fingerprick and treat accordingly. i find it easier to spot patterns on https://www.libreview.com/ website rather than within the app.
