Diabetic clinic

Why do they ask children if they smoke at the diabetes clinic and if I am on special diet when they asked my that last time but never been asked if I smoke till today (I said no)

Because some teenagers do smoke and they need to know as a lot of younger people will place themselves on diets that may not be suitable for their treatment.
 
as Abs said a lot of young people do smoke and/or take recreational drugs which impacts on the treatment of diabetes :)
 
If you smoke, its highly recommended not to when you're diabetic as the long term damages can become alot worst, so usually they ask just to be safe and they'd tell you on the spot you needa stop

I agree with that. People who are not diabetic can have amputations made necessary by smoking. The blood will combine with carbon monoxide instead of oxygen if it is available and this can give circulation problems. All those people who die from faulty boilers found this out.

Since both smoking and diabetes can harm the extremities then you just get a double whammy if you do/have both.
 
You are four times more likely to develop retinopathy if you smoke. After a second bout of it (which magically reversed itself tg) I chose to stop.smoking. Last cig was Wednesday of last week. So far so good.
