Burning mouth

I have all of a sudden got a burning mouth and tongue. Has anyone else had this problem? I have started a new HRT patch I was on a pill before so thinking it might be that. But have read that it is another side affect of diabetes never heard of this before. It's HORRIBLE.

I have been getting burning mouth/tongue and a slight sore throat lately, but not sure if it's something to do with diabetes or the fact that I have stopped smoking and switched to using e-cigarettes.

In your case, this might actually be down to the ecig.

Most e-juices contain a mixture of PG (propylene glycerol) and VG (vegetable glycerol) and the higher percentage of PG in the mix, the more dehydrating the juice. Personally I use a 70/30 mix of PG/VG and get a pretty dry throat, though I think it's a worthwhile sacrifice for the flavour boost you get!

I won't bore you with the science but I hope that info helps! It's probably also worth testing your blood glucose levels to ensure you're not running too high.

My tongue used to hurt so badly when I ate spicy foods - even a medium curry was off the menu for me as it was just too painful. I don't have that problem anymore - I believe it was when I started using hydrogen peroxide solution as a mouthwash that cured it - I think it might have been like a yeast infection within my tongue. I am also an ex smoker and I'm pretty sure it flared up AFTER I gave up smoking - maybe the smoke kept it in check! There were times when even marmite on toast was a struggle. I think us diabetics may be more prone to problems like this.

I have a white coating on my tongue thinking it might be thrush now. Going to the doctor later. Isn't thrush another symptom of diabetes?

I have heard PG liquids can cause some people problems so I tried a 100% VG juice but made no difference, my BG levels are not bad at the moment.
