HI Just wondering what is the name of the test they do to make sure you do have type 1 diabetes ?

There's more than one-One is called a C-peptide test which gives an indication on how much natural insulin our pancreas is making-typically the results are low in type 1 diabetes(Or end stage type 2)-the other usual test looks for rogue antibodies such as GAD antibodies which a positive result typically points to an autoimmune form of diabetes such as type 1 or type 1.5.
 
ok, thanks for that Paul-1976 - do you know if it is common practice to have a C-peptide test. As i have not had one yet and i was disgnosised 4 months ago, and just interested to see if i am honeymooning
 
It's not commonly done I believe due to the cost of the test{s} but is used mostly when your GP or consultant has some real doubt about a patients initial diagnosis,i,e,a type 2 that's condition is deteriorating despite diet,oral medications failing to have any impact for example.
