Numb feet - Worry

Hello All,

First time on the forum.

Struggling at the moment as my feet have been gradually getting more numb. Started in toes and now feel across the bottom of feet (more during the day when at work). Work stress does not help at all - so am trying exercise to manage the stress elements.

The other stress is worrying about the numbness and how quickly it will spread; where it will spread to and how that will effect daily life and work.

I need to improve my will power of sweets and cakes.

But the biggest element is the worry over the numbness - which has me in a vicious circle of being stressed which amplifies the numbness which then causes more stress.

Any advice or ideas on how to think positively about this would be greatly received.

Thanks,
Emmett

Hi Emmett, firstly welcome to the forum. Are you testing your BG levels and if so how are they ?
As I am not medically qualified so the only advice I can give you is to go and see your doctor or diabetes nurse.

Thanks Nick. I am under a doctor and on medication.

It was more how to handle the worry of it getting worst (it may improve with diet - hopefully).

Did the doctor say it could be related to diabetes ? and how are your blood sugar levels, again I am not a doctor but if your BG levels are high this may not help the condition.

I was in a similar state when diagnosed but found as my BG control got better, the numbness gradually receded. Now I just occasionally get a tingling sensation at the very tips. It took quite a while and it can be quite unpleasant as the pain sometimes gets worse as the nerves regain sensation, but it can be reversed with good BG levels.

How bad are your feet? If you jab around with a lancet does it feel sharp or do you just feel pressure
anyway you would know to keep your BG under control to stop further damage and it will improve they say. what is your BG readings doing ?

When I got into my car last Summer I could'nt feel the peddles and ended up reversing into a tree. I chose to not drive for a while! But once I was diagnosed and started to reduce carbs my feet gradually felt normal again. I still choose not to drive at the moment though as at times my eyesight isn't clear enough - for me. Hopefully that will correct itself.

Jeff you have stated this several times but have not given anyone information about your "right food". Also it is a bit dangerous to tell people to stay away from meds without understanding their medical condition.
To reverse the condition I think you need to do more than "eat the right foods and exercise". There have to be targets, lifestyle changes etc. Whilst you continue to spout these high level statements (without details) then you will be ignored; so why not start a new thread explaining how you succeeded, containing details of all your life style changes you made, how long it took and what you found along the way. I would also suggest that you keep the confrontational language like "tioo many people on this site are brainwashed" as it will not help your message. Make it factual with just a few subjective points and people will read and respond

Beshlie - like white bread, rice, potatoes etc ?

Sorry about the delay. Yes, I stopped eating white bread, rice and potatoes, and anything which was made with white flour and of course sugar of all kinds. I am able to eat up to 4 slices of Hovis wholemeal bread without spiking, which is good, but we are all different and need to test after trying something new. I'm also OK with Jacobs cream crackers (up to 4) with butter or cheese. I try to keep my BG levels as close to non diabetic as possible and 50% of the time I succeed now, through trial and error! I think it takes maybe 6 months plus, maybe up to a year, to totally change eating habits so that they become natural to us. One aspect I can't do so far is exercise, but slowly I will do that too.

its not extreme, if you think that putting chemical rubbish into your body will actually improve your life than youre just another sheeple who believes anything the medical field tells you

i was diagnosed 1 year ago with diabetes II, stopped taking metformin a year ago and right now i have almost completely reversed my diabetes. If i did what the doc told me i would actually be dependent on meds today without any progression. Remember drugs is all about the money and the sheeple wanabe victims who pay for it
If I don't take my medication (Insulin) I will be dead in probably about 3 months. Fact! You're talking out of your ****!

:)Hi Embryo and welcome, thank you for raising this question. I have been a bit embarrassed to talk about this keeping my fears hidden. Even the practice nurse whilst tickling my feet, never asks if I am suffering any numbness. I is great to know that with the right diet it may be reversed.

I'm type one so maybe different, But pre diagnosis, both my feet were so numb, I could barely walk 10 feet. As soon as I got my first insulin infusion, and my BM started to sink, I got the feeling back within hours, As others have suggested, do you test?

So, no evidence at all then. Btw if you think I'm a sheep then you clearly haven't read any of my other posts, i avoid most drugs like the plague but metformin is the one diabetes that has clear benefits with very few issues. i have never once heard anybody claim that metformin makes diabetes symptoms worse

@jeff9871 in most cases I respect other peoples opinions and I have in some cases had my opinions changed and also agree with a couple of your points ie some HCP's have No idea what they are talking about apart from blurting out the script they have been trained to give, how ever how can you be so arrogant as to tell people not to take medication, if insulin dependent diabetics don't take insulin they will die. So please don't preach dangerous practices to people that need drugs to live

Type 2 diagnosed 24/01/2013.
Novomix 30, Victoza, metformin 2000mg sr (but not taking them as they play havoc with my insides,

Agreed. Jeff, Apart from anything else its against forum rules to advise people to stop taking meds, whether you agree with it or not. The OP is looking for sensible advice, not conspiracy theories. Start your own thread please if you intend to persist in this.

metformin will eventually worsen the symptons rather than cure, you need to eat the right foods, exersize more and stay off any presription drugs, then your feet will feel normal again

tioo many people on this site are brainwashed to believe that the doctors actually give the right advise and drugs, to reverse diabetes II yiou need to stay away from meds and eat the right food and exersize, that's it.

I can understand how you think you have found the TRUTH, like a born again christian. You want to tell everyone about your new found 'raw food' conviction.
It's even better if there is a DEVIL, the evil drug companies and multinational corporations conspiring to keep people sick while making money
But frankly you need to pull your head in, metformin has been around for nearly 100 years and has proven it's self to be the safest of all the diabetic drugs with secondary heart and cancer benefit.

you really carn't go around telling people not to take prescribed medication based on fact-less supposition and suggesting T1 should jump onboard
I am reporting your posts to the mods because I think what you are doing is dangerous and you need to be told to pull your head in
