Hi all,
I usually go high when I'm sick or have a cold or something but for the past week I've had a terrible sore throat, headaches and feeling sick....there is a lot of it going around where I work and I'm pretty sure I've got some bug.whilst I've been feeling like his my bloods keep plummeting. I've started taking much less insulin for my food, and I have decreased my basals by a lot, I'm starting to think I don't even need to take insulin to cover my evening meal at the moment. Nothing else has changed except I've been feeling ill. I have read how illnesses cause your blood sugar to rise, but is it possible for illness to cause your blood sugar to run much much lower?

Thanks

I find that when I'm ill and my sugars go high, if I do more insulin to correct it with meals I go hypo quite a lot, so it's almost impossible to correct it when I'm ill, I have to just put up with my sugars being high or go hypo if I do do insulin. There's no winning sometimes !!!
Other than that I haven't really been going low when I am ill.

I've found my insulin sensitivity increased last time I was sick maybe its the same for you, your basal could be doing a lot more when you're sick.
