People who say things like "You're Diabetic? Did you eat too much sugar?"
When you tell someone you're diabetic, sometimes they say stupid things like 'did you eat too much sugar?'
What is the stupidest thing someone has said about your illness?

Have you got the bad type or the good type?

As if there is such a thing!

jumped up newly appointed DSNs who go by the NHS script template, contradict themselves constantly, and obviously know JACK about diabetes.....rant over!
"So you haven't got real diabetes then?" or "How did you catch that?" or "Does it hurt?" or one of my favourites "where did get it from?" My answer to that one is "Aisle 3 Tesco Express only cost me £2.99!"

.......................I will think of others and post as I remember them

Do you have the type that goes low or the type that goes high?
From someone who was trying to sound educated about it, bless.

'So you ate a poor diet as a child then?'
'So it is hereditary then, best you don't have kids'
All because it happens that me and my brother in our family are both type one!
And the best one-
'I am going to get myself checked for diabetes too cos I keep feeling really faint and low in sugar' cos apparently they have 'the other kind of diabetes'
Grrrrrrrr!!

As you have very good control using a pump does that mean you can go back too injections so someone else can use the pump instead? This was asked by a nurse at a main Devon hospital last week.

Well that's almost... informed! Type 2 being the type that goes high, Type 1 (or insulin dependent) being the type that goes low. You can sort of see how it makes sense.

How about "you can't eat that!" When people see you eating something that isn't salad!

"Oh, it's best you don't have a biscuit, don't want you going hypo on me!"...hmmm yeah, we wouldn't want that!

"Please don't have a hypo, I don't want to use an epi pen on you!"...I really hope you wouldn't!

And the best one "if you ate this bar of chocolate, would you die?"

At least they knew there are some kind of "types"... Most people don't.

The most annoying ones I had were: "i knew someone who had diabetes so you shouldn't eat that!"
