is progression of type 2 diabetes inevitable at some stage or can it be stopped in its tracks once you have achieved your ideal bmi and blood glucose levels ?
assuming one adheres to the diet and exercise regime along with medication .

Now that is a question that I doubt there is an answer too. I like everyone else all hope for the latter or there is little point in the testing/diet/exercise as it is inevitable. I am sure we will be able to report back in 20 years time and let everyone know the answer

Your best bet would be the Newcastle Diet if you have a substantial amount of weight to lose.
i have very little weight to loose , my diet is perfect ,im low cal ,low fat ,its working nicely about 2kg will be suffice , I was hoping maybe somebody that had diabetes for over 20 years and has it under control with oral meds might have the answer for me .

I don't drink alcohol, eat white bread sandwiches ,crisps, chocolate or anything like that ,that would be very bad for my diabetes
, I think I have a balanced ,healthy diet that's working fine , plenty of fruit and veg ,complex carbs low calorie etc ,I would like to lower my fasting levels a little bit more along with the 2kg weight loss which I have no doubt will happen in next few months ,slowly is the best way to loose weight in my opinion as its more sustainable to maintain the weight loss in the long term ,perhaps the fasting level will come down with the 2 kg weight loss .

You don't say how high your fasting levels are, but there are many on this forum who would say, cut out the "plenty of fruit" and restrict the "complex carbs". Fruit has been described elsewhere as Nature's Candy, it's full of sugar, and all carbs have to be processed, complex or not. Fruits, which many find to be OK in moderation are berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries) and apples. As a general rule, northern latitude grown fruits are best, whilst tropical fruits, such as mango, pineapple and banana are to be avoided.
Give it a try!

thank you , I don not eat tropical fruit at all ,mostly pears ,apples ,oranges and berries in moderation of course ,my fasting level could be up to 7.5 some mornings ,my diet is working ,I have lost some weight on it and im happy with progress so far as is my gp, i think its dawn p as i can go to bed with numbers in 5,s yet wake up with higher numbers . thank you for advice i will reduce some of the fruit and see what happens

You could up your fat intake to make up for loss in energy if you cut down on carbs like fruit. May be beneficial for your morning bg readings.

gosh no, that's not a good idea for me , im on a low fat low cal diet ,I can easily manage without the energy the fruit provides plus it will speed up my weight loss . I am almost certain that will solve my problem ,long term its better that I reduce the fruit as opposed to increasing any fats , thank you for your kind advice .

But fat is good for us, even essential and very satiating so you shouldn't be afraid of fat. Good quality fat that is, like duck and goose fat, lard, butter, coconut oil and olive oil. And it won´t raise bg one bit, as both carbs and protein will. I say fat is a diabetics best friend.
