Hi
wandering if anyone can help?
I was diagnosed as type 2 18 months ago.
on metformin.
Hba1c was 47 4 weeks ago and told if I carried on I could eliminate the type 2 diagnoses. Lost 3 stone and really careful with diet.
then about 2 weeks ago my sugars shot up and are reading between 18 and 24 continuously.
No infection and nothing else has changed.
Feeling pretty poorly with it also. Drinking loads, tired, etc...
Does anyone know why this has happened and what the next step may be?
Due to go back to dm nurse wed morning?

Hi jaylee
thankyou for replying.
I was told if I continued to loose weight and hba1c kept falling the diagnosis coukd be reversed.

Hi Lisa if nothing has changed, ie, diet or illness clouding the issue then please go to A&E a bit quicker than quick as there's a strong possibility you have been misdiagnosed and are infact type 1

Hi
I have a social phobia and really cant do that.
the dm nurse said to just keep an eye out for confusion and sleepiness. But dont understand why the bs would suddenly shoot up when I was so well controlled.

You can get back to 'normal' BG levels and put diabetes in remission, but you are still diabetic - the lifestyle changes are for life otherwise it all unravels again.

Having said that, there is some evidence emerging that some recovery of pancreas function is possible.

Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it too much until you've had a chance to see your nurse - they may suggest an adjustment to your medication and could at least shed some light on why your BG seems to be fluctuating. It's my belief that stress can be as damaging for us diabetics as sugars are so if I were you I'd just try and remain calm and let the professionals do what they can for you. If you were more than a few days away from your next appointment I'd be more concerned. Basically, wait and see what your nurse says and then take it from there.

Thankyou.
I will not stress too much. A pj day in front of the tv I think. Xx

Then ring the NHS health line and they will probably get a doc to call you back at the very least! Take carex

Do you have access to a ketone meter? I'm a little concerend like @CarbsRok you need to be seen ASAP. If you cant make a+E get to the drs today.

Thanks for your response... I would certainly take CarbsRok's advice above as a precaution...
Though I'm no doctor I can appreciate weight loss can also be caused in type 1's when insulin injections are missed..
The result may look great in the mirror, but other serious complications will arise..

Blood sugar control is paramount in all D types...

I wish you all the best!

You are all so kind.
thankyou I will call docs and see what they say
thankyou xx

No one has mentioned missing injections Jaylee?

Hi Lisa, sorry about your phobia obviously, I don't want to scare the pants off of you but if you are type 1 and not type 2 then you need insulin NOW. So even though it's going to be very hard please get someone to take you to a Dr or A&E. If you are type 1 then you will end up in hospital if left untreated so best bite the bullet and get seen so your contact with people is kept to a minimum until you can cope better in situation. Untreated means also you could die, so please go get checked out.

I don't doubt this... My dad was T2 but had vascular dementia he was off the tablets a couple of months before he died & was prone to hypos..

It was in reference to Carbrok's mis diagnosis of T1 comment...

As you can see what I actually said was that there was a possibility Lisa was type 1 and not type 2, not as you have stated :)

Hi
ok just spoke to ooh doc
he saud that I need to watch for confusion loads of sleep etc...
as long as I see dm nurse wed just bear with it.
thankyou all so much for your help xxx

Oh dear here we go....! "My bad." I am not disagreeing in any way with your initial point..
If a misdiagnosis of type is the case? The lack of insulin could cause problems associated with "diabulimia"?

Two things stood out for me weight loss & high sugar levels... I was rolling with that..

All contributions I fully respect..

Hi. I agree with CarbsRok that you need to bear in mind the possibility of Late onset T1; unlikely but possible. So just keep an eye on the blood sugar and if it moves into the high 20s and beyond then go to A&E. If not, then see the DN as advised this week. Have plenty of water and keep the carbs down
