ketones

It means that you should check for ketones. It doesn't necessarily mean that you have them, just that your bloods are high and that it's possible.
You can get blood monitors that check ketones as well as blood sugar or you can get urine dip-sticks.

You should also try and lower your bloods as quickly (and safely) as you can.

I have urine sticks, but not at work and it happened at work a thew days ago. My glucose levels were so hi that my machine couldn't read it. I just drank pints of water injected and checked every half hour. Got it down but took all day around 5 hours.

It might be wise to carry some with you then just in case.
Getting your levels down is the main thing. In my experience as your bloods come down so do any existing ketones.
This is just my experience though and may not be fact.

Finding out why your bloods went that high in the first place would be a good place to start preventing it from happening it again :)

I know why it happened, forgot my injection for breakfast. Silly me. But I've done that before and it didn't affect me so bad. Do I speak medical assistance if the ketones stay high.

Cheers for info.

No worries at all.

From what I remember (it's been a long time since I had ketones) if the strips go into the purple and you can't get them down then yes, you should seek assistance.
I've forgotten my insulin a number of times and my bloods have gone high but I didn't have ketones. I think that if you are high for a long time, are poorly or haven't eaten recently then you are at risk of ketones.
Don't take it as fact though because I'm not positive.
The important thing with ketones is to drink plenty and get your bloods down.

Seek medical assistance if you can't get your BG or your ketones down by yourself using a sickness protocol, or if you are vomiting and unable to take fluids.

The sickness protocols are to take X% of total daily insulin dose every Y hours, depending on your ketone level. Did you get given a protocol like this in your diabetes education?
