For anyone interested, I finally got to go on my DESMOND course yesterday, 7 months after diagnosis, and it was OK. It made me realise that I have been incredibly lucky in being able to do lots of reading and background research and I have been in a position to make changes in my life already that have helped me manage my Type 2. For those on the course who had been unable to do as much of their own research I think it was really useful. For me, it just reinforced most of what I knew already. However I was also pleasantly surprised at the approach to low carbing, the dietician was encouraging everyone to cut down on their carb portions, and we had some helpful discussions about my low carb diet. She said that the approach is definitely changing and lots of the old advice is now out of date, and she would encourage anyone to do what works for them (as long as everything is in moderation).
