Definitely agree with you there, but don't buy, I got a cat from the Cats Protection League, such a character and the boss:cat:, loved him so much<3

Agreed, sorry should have said 'acquire'! We've never bought a cat, they've all been moggies rescued in one way or another - six at once brought back from South America on one occasion, but that's another story ...

Tv , good films and reading and we are happy ....... :)
What did our ancestors ever do....

I remember a great aunt who would sit in the chair all day with her budgie on one side and her radio on the other....no tv, think she just remained in shock after the war ended.....so many stories there ....x

Hi sanguine would love to hear that other story one day when you have time about the six cats .......x

Kat, are you watching the other drama on the BBC called From There to Hear, it's the final episode tomorrow night and it's as good as Happy Valley.....well nearly.

Yes, very good! Also noted the comment about the anti-stress hormones released when stroking a cat and the alleged 30% reduction in risk of heart disease in cat owners. Simple message then, bu**er the statins/BP drugs and buy a cat!

Huh, we have 3 cats and I still have high BP! Obviously, our cats are slacking off their comforting duties! They are gonna have to buck up their ideas aren't they? Awww, but where would we be without them, they are darlings really even if hey do bring unwanted gifts of rats and mice, leave them under the kitchen table and expect praise. :)

This thread is doing me no good at all Kat! Our telly is utter and complete rubbish, the only good programmes are the dramas and stuff from the UK and we don't get a lot of that either! We are watching Broadchurch right now which is excellent if a bit harrowing and if anyone tells me who did it I will stop reading this forum! :p I like Mr Selfridge and The Paradise, don't watch Coro or the medical ones or soaps but Mr Whichell was on a bit ago and that was wonderful.

Ah well, I have no doubt we will survive without decent telly but it's a very sad situation ;)

Thanks for that NH but we don't much like football...(waits for a storm of "YOU WHAT?!!) But Wimbledon is coming up and we get good coverage of that. In fact, we have a Wimbledon fortnight here at home, we record the matches through the night and watch it during the day and on finals day we have a bottle of bubbly too! How daft is that? Can't have strawberries though, Winter here and none around. :)

Footballs not everyone's cup of tea. I don't like tennis so don't watch much of Wimbledon except the final, my MIL loves it and watches every tournament.

YOU WHAT!!!??? it's the World Cup .lol I do like watching it, even though TV football definitely isn't the same as a live match( I've been to Chelsea and Southampton many years ago) but soaking up the atmosphere at a live World cup game, wow, I wish I could go if only just the once:happy:, and I'm a female.

Hi Kat

Well, this is your thread so I needn't feel guilty going OT!

In the mid 90s we lived in Santiago, Chile for a while associated with my work. The kids went to international school there and we also took our cat Macavity with us since he was as much part of the family as the children. He was about 12 at the time. At the vet there on some checkup or other we noticed a postcard about a 4 year old tabby who had been left behind by a returning expat family (how can they do that?) and was described as a bit 'difficult'. We thought that this cat would have difficulty being rehomed not being a kitten, so we took her. She was called Cucha, local Spanish for puss apparently (at least I hope so!), and we left her with that name. Others followed - a tiny black kitten, barely weaned, smelt the milk in a shopping bag and followed us home (Ebony); another tabby kitten who had a bit of Abysinnian in her was brought home after being found on the street by my son (Harley); a ginger female who was in a litter produced by a neighbour's cat (Felina); and finally a grey female who just turned up one day and decided to move in (Moppet). Macavity was a bit put out at first, being an only cat up until then, but gradually got used to it and eventually relished being boss cat. We had them all vaccinated and neutered (not a common thing in macho Latin America).

When it came to return, there was no question that they would come with us. They trusted us, how would they react to being abandoned? Even if we found what seemed a good home we could never be sure they wouldn't be left behind later. People thought we were quite mad! Even though they had rabies injections, they all had to go into quarantine back in England for six months. The kennels weren't too bad, they were 3 and 3 in two large cages with heaters and a view of an aviary to give them some interest, and we visited them every weekend. I think the flight and the quarantine worked out to around £1000 per cat.

So eventually they came out and all happily resettled in England. Macavity by now was 15 and had 24,000 air miles. He died of natural causes a couple of years later, Felina had heart failure quite soon after, not uncommon in female ginger cats apparently, but the others lived with us for at least another 9 years. Moppet developed a cancer a few years ago around vaccination points on her neck, which was removed twice but still returned and she had to be put to sleep, the other three all died of old age at around 15, in fact Cucha was 19 I think. The last to go was Harley a couple of years ago, as the last one I think she really missed the others at the end. We had the vet come to the house to put them to sleep when it was clear they were deteriorating quickly, and they are all buried in the garden.

We have 5 cats at the moment, including 2 rescues and one who moved in from next door - the neighbours accept this because they know where he is, and he still goes back to visit.

:D In my own defence I have to say that I live in the most rugby mad country in the world I reckon! Any other ball/pitch sport in NZ gets pretty short shrift here although we do have a national soccer team....I think ;) Mustn't upset the All Blacks must we? AND it would be more than my life was worth to say something on the lines of "Rugby? What's that then?" :p I really would get inundated with YOU WHAT'S!!!
