Urine strips ?

I wouldn't have a lot of confidence in your DSN if she thinks urine sticks are superior to your BG meter.

It looks like you are on track with your BG numbers and if you want to test your blood it's none of her business really.

To be honest I came out of her room last week and cried. When I was diagnosed my BG on fasting that day was 16 and now I see 5 or the odd 7 I then do two hrs after each meal and I am about 6 to 7.4 now I went in there pretty chuffed I have lost a stone in waight since just before diagnosis and so I thought pat on the back my bloods for cholestrol were fine 3.8 and my kidneys are fine it was just my BG and she said I am on the level of 74 she would like me to get to 53 .

Sounds like you are doing well. Just be aware that urine is normally around 4hours old on average so not overly accurate as a snapshot of how your levels are at that moment in time. I have wee sticks that are multitest as I am very prone to urine infections and having to call the out of hours coz I was burning up and in pain even though I knew it was probably just wee infection again on the weekend was getting silly so I have my own strips now and Dr gave me antibiotics to keep on "standby". They also test for glucose and if I know I've been high in the night then I test my urine the next day at same time as testing bg using my monitor, the monitor will often say it's okay but the wee sticks will show maxed out +++++ lol also as poster above says your kidneys tend to not spill out sugar into your wee until it's over 10mmol/l in a healthy kidney.
However if that is what your hcp has told you to do and you are happy I wouldn't worry :)

The 74 figure is your HbA1c test which shows how you blood sugars have been over the last 3 months. I'm sure that your next test will be nearer 53 if you carry on with what you are doing now. Well done so far!

I think she is talking about your diagnostic blood test, the HbA1c. This averages blood glucose over the previous 2 to 3 months. The units it is measured in are not the same units our blood meters use, which is always confusing. The HbA1c used to be measured in DCCT % but changed last year and is now measured in IFCC - mmol/mol. Our meters are measured in mmol/l. So in the UK we are dealing with 3 different measuring units. Your nurse gave you a result of 74. This would be the IFCC measure. It converts to 11.6mmol/l. That was your average over the previous 2 to 3 months. She wants you to get down to 53, which converts to an average of 8.6mmol/l over 2 to 3 months. So if you keep up your excellent readings you will easily achieve this, and better.

Hi Sunday 1980 thank ou I too suffer from Anxiety and that seems to be one of the things my Drs love talking about everything they do seems to involve my anxiety and it doesn't help.
My nurse wants me to do the urine strips but I am far from happy as it just stresses me out.
My BG monitor says I am fine but every test I do with the strips says 1.1 .
Can you explain why on the pack leaflet it says 1.1 is normal ?
My one and only worry and I think you wil understand this with your Anxiety doing my BG with monitor I can do and it feels like I am doing okay ?
But my head is just saying no your not you still have too much glucose in your urine ?
I get days when I feel very sick and pretty unwell but my bG monitor seems okay .

I know your not me but given what I have said would you be happy ?

What would you do with these urine stic
Do you think I am testing enough ?

thank you so much I do hope I can do it. Do you really think in your experience that the urine result is nothing to worry about , I mean do you think I can still achieve it without getting into the neg .?
Can you shed any light on the fact the information sheet says 1.1 is normal where as the nurse said what you said .
Don't understand why she is insisting I use them .
You have been so kind tonight thank you for your time

U seem to be doing really well so don't let it get you uptight, and stress is the worst for your skin so I wouldn't worry about that :))
