Hi Allig,
I'm assuming you're type II because if I'm not mistaken Glicalzide works by make the pancreas make more insulin and insulin will help you store fat.
If you're newly diagnosed I'm surprised they haven't prescribed metformin first, metformin helps the body make better use of the insulin being produced.. It might be worth asking for a c-peptide blood test to at least let you know how much insulin you are producing. I had to pay for my own but at least I now know after 17 years that my pancreas produces an amount of insulin that is considered to be OK.
I stopped taking Glicalzide just before xmas, but because I have kept a weigh chart for 8 years I can see that I gained weight when I started taking it which was a blow at the time because I'd been losing quite nicely after coming off rosiglitazone.
You might like to have a look at message threads that mention low carb diets, it worked wonders for me, lost three stone, was able to stop gliclazide, januvia and an added bonus, atorvastatin went out the window as well. Last week, after stopping those three drugs over 6 months ago, HbA1c was 6.4, total cholesterol was 5.4, I'm not complaining. Welcome to the forum, I hope you're good at studying, there's a lot to take in, my head hurts all the time, at 62 I guess it needs a delete of all the **** and a defrag.
