HBa1c result best ever...

Had my diabetes hospital appointment today and I was really pleased with my HbA1c result. It is now 48 (6.5%)!!! In my 10 years of having T1 diabetes, I have never had a reading that "normal" before. I am very happy. :):):)

I did have my insulin pump tweaked also as my blood sugar levels have been very low recently. Hopefully, this will resolve my hypo episodes. Hope everyone is having a good day. M x
 
So many positive posts about the benefit of insulin pumps, more people should be offered them, well done GL :)

Yes, I agree. I was refused a pump when I asked my consultant a few years ago, so I got mine in Australia when I lived there. I think my results are also down to my low carb eating too! I love my insulin pump and would never go back to MDI's. :D

Hope the tweaking works for you too :) How was the appointment on the whole ? Was thinking of you today as I passed "The Centre for Ageing and Vitality " as as I went for my bulk buy of lentils etc on Westgare Road , and wondered how you were getting on !

Hi Heathenlass, thanks for your post. I was really not looking forward to the appt due to seeing my new consultant. However, when I got there, the clinic was very quiet and my consultant wasn't even in! So, still not been introduced to her. As it happens I saw a dr who was very on the ball. She did not know much about insulin pumps and advised me that I should be in the pump clinic. I thought I was, but it turns out that I was in the usual diabetic clinic. My new consultant does not specialise in pump therapy so have now been referred to another consultant who is the specialist pump consultant. Seeing him on 17 July. Hopefully, this will be a good appointment. Overall though, the appointment went really well and I was really impressed with who I saw. She also made sure I saw the specialist nurse before I left the clinic as she knows about insulin pumps and was able to help me adjust my carb:insulin ratio as well as my insulin sensitivity, due to losing 4 stone since my last appointment in April! So will just have to see how my blood sugars are over the next few weeks up until my next appointment. How's your diabetes treating you? M x

So a bit of a mixed bag then ?:confused:
I's not a pump clinic, but run of the mill diabeltc clinic,,,
No consultant there...
But that consultant doesn't specialise in pumps, so what the heck...
Doc isn't familar with pumps...
But the DSN is, and gives you good advice until you get to see the consultant at the pump clinic!

It;s great news about your HbA1c though! And you lost FOUR stones since April??:happy: Wow! Well done you !

My diabetes? Thanks for asking - that's a whole new thread, as I had an "emergency " appointment with the DSN at Hexham yesterday, after a nasty attack of the "cluster hypos " yet again :eek: The good bits - my GP recognises that he and the "diabetic nurse " at the practice can't deal with me, and it's got me into the Clinic system rikki tik quick :D The other good bit is my results from the eye scan came back normal, which I am happy about as I had some concerns that my dire high BG's had caused some damage > The rest I'll explain in my thread as I'm uncertain about the recommendations...

Oh, and I was very impressed with Hexham General !

That's good that you are impressed with Hexham General. Hope you get yourself sorted there. Sounds like you have had quite an experience with your hypos. Hope all is well now. Will look out for your thread. M x
 
Well done outstanding result i am now in the same situation of maintaining the " normal " hba1c it's now a challenge to make sure there is no red markers ( + 10 ) readings on my diasend upload I'm still getting 1 a day roughly but compared to before that's a result

Many thanks for your replies. It is a struggle to keep those blood sugars as normal as possible, especially during stressful times. After having my insulin pump tweaked by the nurse, I have altered them again as my blood sugars were creeping up and I didn't like the numbers!
 
So I. March this year I was at an all time low in terms of looking after my diabetes and had a hba1c to prove it of 117. So, took time to refocus and back in a routine and my result in June was 32 :-)

What did you do to achieve such a good result ?

A year ago I was diagnosed type 2 with hba1c at 91.
3 months later 50, and now a year later, Hba1c is 39!
All due to strict diet.

However, I am due soon for a triple bypass and the mitral valve replacement at John Radcliff hospital.
Hopefully it will help to regain my mobility.
