I share a house with some friends and one of them is type 2 diabetic He seems to have a mental block about eating (he never stops!) and has become very aggressive
is this a normal symptom and does the heat affect diabetics

Before my husband was diagnosed / began to take control of his condition, he didn't stop eating and was quite aggressive in his demands for food. I think this happens because, as a type 2 eats more carbohydrates (sugars, bread, pasta, cereals, rice, potatoes), they produce more insulin, which their bodies can't process, but which sends out hunger messages, causing them to eat more food, and so it goes on. May not be quite right on the details, but there is some sort of vicious circle operating. This cycle has to be broken and the way many on this forum control type 2 diabetes is by severely restricting sugars and carbohydrates. It's tough at first, but many have seen great benefits. As far as I know, heat does not affect type 2.
You say you are sharing a house with friends, which implies you might all be in your early 20's, though I do appreciate the need to house share, especially in London, goes on for a few years longer than it did when I was that age. I just raise this because it is fairly unusual, but by no means unknown, for someone of that age to be type 2, which is traditionally associated with middle age and older. Anything I have said above refers to type 2, not type one, which is dealt with differently and has its own set of problems.
Try and get your friend to look at this site and forum, there's lots of useful information and he probably isn't happy with himself either.

I think that low blood sugar levels can make you feel tense, and also frustrated, because you know that you aren't functioning properly. I think that it's easier for a person to be aggressive in these circumstance, rather than when they are feeling AOK. The fact that your friend is permanently hungry would also suggest to me low blood sugar levels.

Also, I think that the heat could adversely affect people subject to hypos, because of the need to take on water frequently, which might upset the body's sugar levels.

Thanks for your replys flattered to think you thought we were in our early 20's

I am 59 my friend is 54 the others are in their early 60's !

I feel its more of a denial type problem with the eating and his blood sugar levels are usually too high

I am type one and I can be awful with my eating sometimes, i just need to stuff as much in as quick as i can.
I find when my BG levels rise quite high i get very touchy and aggitated and can fly of the handle very quick;ly.
However these days i am much better controlled....by that i mean i have some :) and this is with both my eating and control of my BG levels and aggressivness is much less frequent and im a lot nicer to be around.
Telling someone to change their habits is hard but if he goes on too long like that then he is going to suffer with complications and he will find then when he is in pain etc he will have a much bigger and serious reason to be grouchy. he might as well take some action now.
