'Newcastle diet' advice

glad to hear that your op went well. I think having an anaesthetic can make you temporarily gain weight- I know I always felt fatter after mine and it took a few days to get bowels and bladder back to normal functioning. Don't rush ti get back exercising as body needs chance to heal and it is far better to take it slowly than do unnecessary damage. Wishing you good healing xx

Thank you @cold ethyl. I do plan to be sensible and take some time to heal. My husband is being incredibly solicitous and looking after me well, and is determined to make sure I am sensible. Will eat properly though and not cheat. Hope you are all doing well - this thread is quiet so you must all be on holiday. Have a good time.

Thanks for you reply Pipp, sorry I have been out of the loop for a while (manically selling and trying to buy houses!). I hope you are doing well, your posts have really helped me, especially with the Newcastle Diet thing. I have continued to lose weight 1st 10lbs so far, but fallen off the wagon a bit this week (5 week). Added few good proteins last couple of days as had enough of sweet shakes, but threw myself under a fridge train today!!
Don't worry about a little slip up. 5 weeks is good going. So is your weight loss. Have you been testing blood glucose levels to see if they have improved?
Also, don't get despondent if you gain a little weight when you stop doing Newcastle. Have you gone back on the Newcastle diet or are you trying something else? I am still trying to find a way of losing weight. tried LCHF but not very successful. thinking of another intense Newcastle to kick start loss as I am able to maintain weight pretty well afterwards. Just don't think it is good to do very low calorie for too long so will discuss with GP first.
keep up the good work, and good luck with the house stuff. hope it won't be too stressful.

Well surgery over and I am home again and recovering here which is great. Was actually not nearly as bad as my overactive imagination had built it up to be. I was last on the list though so a long wait. Being well looked after and plan a quiet day on the couch. Only bad news- seem to have put on two pounds though can't understand why as ate nothing all day yesterday and only had something light when I arrived home! Don't feel like heading to the treadmill to get it off again. BS 4.3 this morning.

One thing did make me smile though. I was weighed before the operation and told I had lost 11 lbs since the pre-op meeting in June. When it came out that I had actually lost 66 lbs the anaesthetist asked for diet advice and made a point of coming to speak to me about the Newcastle diet and whether it was suitable for non-diabetics. Ha ha!
Glad you sound as if you are doing well @paulins. the 2lbs will probably be fluid, they keep you well hydrated in theatre. Or your body reacting to the onslaught, and hanging on to all nutrients for repair.
Please take it easy, and stay away from the treadmill for a few days at least. you deserve and need a rest.
hope you continue to do well.

yes holidaying not all that far from where you are, actually, but so rural have had trouble getting on wifi. my telepathic good wishes have been going out though.

I am glad it went ok Paulins. Fingers crossed for no long term issues for you

Getting twitchy as have not been on my treadmill for nearly a week now but realise I am not ready yet. Healing well but think it will be another week. Results appointment 22nd so trying to be very positive and upbeat. Have lost the 3lbs I seemed to put on - inexplicably - and eating healthily. But family keep bringing me chocolates and arriving with treats that I can't eat! Ho hum!

So, ... Did 30 minutes on treadmill this morning so will see how I feel during the day. Set slower speed and was careful not to jar. But got pulse up and a little bit of sweat. I was already feeling that I was losing fitness and morning readings have been low 5s rather than the regular 4s that I had been getting pre-surgery. Though this may be because of the protein in the chicken I have been eating for dinner to help recovery. Will let you know! If all ok then will build up again over the week. Hope you are all doing well.

So very pleased for you @paulins . Over the last few weeks I have been having difficulty with weight. Have gained too much doing daft things with food and drink on holiday. Everytime I have felt miserable about it I have thought of your posts, and how determined you have been not to be thwarted in achieving your goals.
If I could have just a small fraction of your dedication to get as well as possible I would feel very blessed.

Stay well
Pipp

Keep at it Pipp and don't beat yourself up over some holiday blips. I think I am a bit OCD - and I can't control my other health issue so need this to focus on!
Healing well and back on treadmill. Trying to stay calm as next results on Tuesday. Exercise helps.

Thanks @paulins . It wasn't holiday blips so much as pushing limits with carbs to see what would happen to blood glucose readings. Very silly, as b g stayed fine, but weight didn't.
Preparing to return to Newcastle regime again, as I know it works for me. I seem to be able to maintain weight when I stop Newcastle too, as long as I don't pig out on silly stuff.
You are inspirational in the way you have remained focussed in spite of the adversity. That can't be easy.

I think we are all doing great! It leaves me feeling quite humble when I see how much so many people on this forum have had to deal with and how well they have coped. I have had an easy time in comparison to so many and just feel this is to be my horrible year and that I'll get past it! The support here is terrific.

5 more pounds to lose before I move into HEALTHY WEIGHT range! (OK, it is 8 st 6 lbs - 11.6 lbs, and I will be right at the top of the range, but what the hey!). Hope to do this by the end of July.

Oh, wow! You will do it. When you have please keep on posting. Sorry that is selfish of me but you are keeping me motivated. I am ready to restart Newcastle diet again. Have you stayed on the 600 - 800 calories all this time? AND the treadmill? Is there something else you are doing to remain so successful?

Pipp, I have been on 600-800 calories since January 27th, and over the past month or so have eaten slightly more protein - lean chicken, lean ham etc. I have continued to use the drinks and soups for breakfast and lunch, and have lots of vegetables cooked in many different ways (curries, stir fries, etc etc) for dinner. I also now have some raspberries or strawberries for a treat! Apart from 4 days after my surgery on 7th July, I have been on the treadmill every day for months and have done 5k each session for the last two months. I was advised that for fat loss very brisk walking was better than running, as long as the heart rate is up and I was sweating, so have done that. Apparently I should be able to talk albeit often quite breathlessly! I have it on an incline - though not the steepest - and build up from 4.00 to 5.5 km/per hr over the hour it takes me to do the 5k. Nothing else - though I walk rather than take the car or the bus whenever possible, and I take the stairs rather than the lift at work.
I will keep posting Pipp - I have found you all such an inspiration, and am happy to do whatever I can to help others keep going.
Today I bought a swimming costume (and this was SUCH a big deal for me!) and when my wounds have healed completely and I am told I can go into the pool, I am going to swim! This will not be a pretty sight, and I might need to get some lessons as I haven't swum for so many years, but it is apparently very good for overall fitness and suppleness.
I have followed Andrew Colvin as he seemed to be on a similar journey to me - Andrew, you have been very quiet!

I want to keep hitting the 'like' button @paulins, because I am so in awe of you and all you have achieved. AND swimming! You know that is an obsession of mine? Sorry, shouldn't bore you with that, other than to say it will be a great way to maintain your weight loss. I guess the difficulty will be how you will eat enough calories when you finish, but that is not something to be bothered about now. Also, I wouldn't worry to much about how you will look in a swimsuit. Honestly, there are so few people in swimming pools who are totally satisfied with how they look. When I first started swimming again I weighed 148kg. I was petrified that I would make a show of myself, or other people would be unkind. They weren't, as many of them had their own concerns about their appearance. I am still about the same weight you were when you started out, though now I just get in the water and move.

I will probably start Newcastle again in the next few days, with maybe an odd day here and there eating normal food on social occasions. Normal in the sense of low carb, low fat, fresh food mainly veg. Possibly I will copy your format of recording weight and bloods etc in profile on forum, as that is working so well for you. You have found a winning formula. Can you just tell me where I can get the same determination you have?

Thank you for sharing your information. So generous, particularly with all you are going through right now
Wishing you well
Pipp

Thank you Pipp! So encouraging, as always! We will support each other through this!
