BG 9.1 where did I go wrong with my dinner tonight?

The sauce was about 35gms and the onion and peppers add another 25 to 30 subject to size. People often forget to add the carbs from ostensibly low carb veges. The full recipe is probably about 66 to 75 gms, giving per serve of 22 to 25 gms carb. Not terribly high, but possibly too high for you at that time. Did you eat it without sides, or did you add rice, noodles or bread? What did you wash it down with?
No sides just the meatballs and sauce and zero fizzy pop which is no added sugar

Yes, I'm afraid stress does affect BG - a lot.

to really sure what the mechanism is, but adrenalin factors in, and we respond to stress with lots of fight-or-flight responses (adrenalin, and needing energy to deal with the emergency), then afterwards we usually slump, feel tired and want foods (often carbs) to rapidly replenish our BG and glucose reserves.

If it is grinding ongoing stress, then the BG can be raised for days or weeks, and sometimes our adrenal glands can get 'exhausted' where they just can't keep us on 'high alert' any longer. That is when we need some serious downtime - long lie ins, a holiday, maybe time off work. Gives the system time to recover.

How is your mum doing now?
She's ok thanks for asking.

Hope your Mum is feeling better. I would say it was probably that you were under some stress with your Mum as it was not a really high carb meal that you had. As said if you get a higher reading than you think you should then test again after 5 minutes and you may find it will be lower

Hi Marie. Don't throw the other portions away. Try another one, testing before and after. If it is high again, then you may have to have a re-think.
To be honest, it is pretty pointless just testing after a meal. You really need to know what your starting level was.

Best wishes to your mum. Certainly with her being ill and needing an ambulance will have made you stressed and could be having an effect on your levels.

Thanks, I won''t be trying it tonight as I'm having chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella and wrapped in bacon with Mediterranean vegetables with basil. That should be ok. Gonna test before and after this time

Hi Marie,

You've had some great replies here.

All I can add is, think of it as a learning opportunity. The strangest things can cause spikes, and everyone is different.

- I can't touch strawberries. I don't even know how high they send me because I'm asleep before I get to the hour mark to test, but my Mum is ok with them. - An apple will send her sky high, but if my sugar is high, an apple will cause it to drop like a stone. Go figure!

Don't give up on the meatballs, but I would ditch the ready made sauces. Sorry!
