hi, welcome
it is very important for type 2 diabetics to follow an eating plan that keeps their blood glucose down, im no expert but i see it like this, eat the stuff that dosent cause blood sugar spikes, sugar is a carbohydrate, there are many other carbohydrates, all of these to varying degrees seem to spike my blood sugar so avoid them where ever possible, this has worked very well for me but i have no other health conditions that this way of eating could effect so i feel its safe, i have done all the research i can (i am not clever enough to understand anything complicated) i have read an awful lot about how successfully reducing carbs can be and certainly found it to be the way to go for myself, other people seem to be able to eat more sugar (or carbs) though so i hope your one of those (if you like carbs) i suppose its all trial and error, but i personally have found this way of eating a life saver and would be ashamed of myself if i didnt encourage others to try this approach, well done for getting yourself a meter
you dont have to take any chances and believe total strangers or your doc/nurse on what to eat, you have the meter, you can see for yourself
regarding the conversation earlier on in this thread im sorry if it has turned you off the forum, the forum isnt perfect *shrug* nor can doctors be, personally i have spent alot of time with my daughter with some very clever doctors and endocryn dudes who were awesome and saved her, on the other hand, i believe the diabetes advice my dad received from hes doctor killed him, he was told to eat in moderation (lol) he died at 67 so in my opinion that didnt work, the advice i have been given from my own doctors and nurses is at best non existent and at worse very dangerous and ignorant, this isnt to say they are all bad but as everything on the forum is our own personal experiences, i cant really sit here and say my hcps are good, so in conclusion please stick around if you want to learn about diabetes or just read through the posts without posting if you prefer its all good, thats the point, is it is all good, i cant believe anyone posts here for their own benefit except the funnier threads where i suppose having fun is for self benefit, but no one is posting on a thread like this for personal gain so even if you decide someone (especially me) is talking nonsense i reckon its nonsense with good intentions
so my equation... diabetes t2 = sugar is bad for me, sugar = carbohydrates, fewer carbs = less sugar, less sugar = better control = happy andy
