DSN rant

Maybe in another 3 stone! My mother in her usual tactful way said at least I don't look like I have been blown up by a bicycle pump (my husband thought that this was hilarious and every now and then mutters it to himself and giggles). Good job that our family never went into the diplomatic service! We'd be on WWvi by now!

You forgot evil! Mine certainly is! The one time after I saw her and she referred me on to the hospital, the doc said "I can see you didn't get on with Alison". Which is unusual as I tend to get on with most people! She refused to see me again! Although she did come in briefly to have a go about testing when the locum was there! Type 2s don't need to test! He still gave me strips and a meter despite her disapproval!
 
Mine is lovely.. A regular "Girl Scout"..

The woman would do anything for me.. (Not that she needs to.)
I get calls if she hasn't seen me in a while & my HSBCs text through to me...!

As an edit, she also dealt with my dad's T2.. No problem with the tester & strips..!

HSBCs? She's so good you give her access to your bank details. I'm impressed. ;)

Setting up a meter or a pump is just a matter of reading instructions :) So in a way she has done you a big favour........ Stand on your own two feet and take control. You will be fine and as IHS says you have Roche for back up if you get stuck. :)

I get that but I didn't know if they would need to be told or anything! Because knowing my luck I would get it and then tell them months after I got a new one that I should have informed them or something....I cant win

All of mine that I have had are useless....my first Diane....let me go into DKA 2 times because I wasn't on enough insulin and I was only a child so we didnt know any different and after the 2nd DKA I was transferred to the adult clinic who was fuming that I was on such little insulin and they then doubled my doses and started seeing some improvements!! My current ones are Ok....slightly better but sometimes have no clue.... @donnellysdogs knows more than them....and she isn't a DSN...wish she was though ha!
My GP is the only one who would do ANYTHING for me but doesn't know much about diabetes etc :(
 
And I know I may come across as stupid but I just want the best for my health although it may not seem that way sometimes but i do!!!

I don't feel yer "stupid".. There's probably an element of "self doubt"..

I try not to think of these blood meter gadgets as medical.. More as a gauge. Like in a car. Temp gauge, warning light that sort of thing..
I tend to only let my garage do stuff I'm stuck on myself or weighed up that a mechanics rate is cheaper than forking out for a specialist tool that I will only use once...?
It's like moving contacts to a new mobile phone..? In this case it's a "like for like" meter.. Your DSN isn't going to know the difference..! ;)

I'm sure some people probably think I am! I just thought they would need to know lol so I told them! Technically im all still new to this, I've gone from not caring about it to letting it be all I think about And my consultant said to inform my nurse so I did! gah! x
 
To be honest my issue tends to be with mechanics..
I've fitted a fare few aftermarket gauges to a vehicle to monitor performance that it freaks out the pros that are experienced with the average Ford or Vauxhall...
The amount of times I've had a call from a garage consulting me on an issue they think they have encountered & I tell em it's fine..
I only trust one guy to bleed the coolant system... (There are two heater matrixes, so it is tricky.)

Just log the call you made to your DSN & if you get any grief over the issue on the next visit? Throw the log at em...

Your average DSN. It's just a job to them. I just see em like any other service provider...

Lol that all just made no sense to me aha! I have no clue about cars although I am pretty good at naming them ha! ;)

And I will do! It's just frustrating that when I think I am doing something right it turns out I am not and I get moaned at.

You couldn't put a name to mine.. Most mechanics don't even know where the dipstick is... Lol

The proof is in the low carb pudding.. As long as you keep your HSBCs out of the red..!

I'm not with HSBC LOL ;) I know you mean hba1c but mine is still in the red! But coming down!
 
Is a DSN a diabetes nurse? Sorry if it's a stupid question, but since I was diagnosed in late Feb I've only seen the doctor once.. who gave me a repeat prescription for metformin and a referral to the Desmond course. That was pretty much all the contact I've had.

Well except for seeing my regular GP who switched me over to metformin SR because of the usual bowel hilarity. Which seems to have returned anyway.
