First Diabetes Nurse Appt

Yes, today I saw a diabetes nurse who didn't even know how to put the lancet in a blood glucose monitor.
At least I can laugh about it though :rolleyes:

That's a horrible attitude to have. The nurses I see sometimes don't like it if you know things and like to assert their authority sometimes but they've never been that rude. They weren't happy when I told them I was testing myself either. I hope you get a better nurse next time. Lol it's a roll the dice sometimes isn't it to which attitude you walk in to. Great you've got your humour Dibbles and you never know, the nurse might be seething now lol. Serves her right, she showed herself up just a tad didn't she. All the best.
 
I hope you do too. I know there are 5 or 6 nurses at our surgery that take it in turns to do the clinics. All pleasant enough but some more approachable than others. It's hard enough for us to get our heads around it at the beginning without being patronized too. Hopefully if you get her again, she will be more pleasant :)

For what it's worth I refused to see one of my practice nurse's about my asthma.Get this conversation...you'll love it...

Her: oh I see I only did your review 2 weeks ago
Me: No you can't have, I've never met you before and I haven't been here since my last review 6 months ago
Her: oh it's here on the screen, I've definitely done your review already
Me: Ok, well, not with me you haven't, I don't care what's on that screen (doubting my sanity by this point)
Her: so what meds are you on?
Me: Beclometasone, Salmeterol and Salbutamol
Her: Oh no you're not on Salmeterol
Me: I am, I've been on it for 15 years
Her: No you're not
Me: Yes I am, it's a green inhaler
Her: No it's not, Salmeterol is orange
Me: No, Fluticasone is orange
Her: No it isn't, Fluticasone is purple
Me: No it isn't, it's only purple when it's mixed with Salmeterol...and then it's called Sertetide
Her: No, you're wrong!
Me: Well, you seem to really know your stuff huh?

Seriously...I kid you not. Never again. I was so gobsmacked I actually forgot to put in a complaint about the fact she knew less that I did.
 
My DN was very jolly and kind. But she told me all about the eat well plate, balanced diet and no need to test. I just smiled and lstened. I told her I had joined the forum and had started a low carb diet. I think it was a parallel conversation.:)

I know, I now take Seretide after she switched me...that was the one thing she did get right actually, made a massive difference. But I still think she should know her inhalers when she's an asthma nurse. I lost all faith in her after that.

I have Flixotide and Serevent separately as my consultant wishes me to vary the amount of Flixotide I take depending on how I feel. You can't do that with the fixed ratio in Seretide. I always invoke his name if my asthma nurse tries to change my prescription.

Yeah there was a compliance issue with the 2 separate inhalers - after 20 years I was getting hacked off and admitted to only taking the Serevent. So she switched me to Seretide 250...had perfect control ever since! When I attempt to step it down though, my chest isn't happy, so we've agreed to stick with this for a while. I'm enjoying being able to breathe for a change :)
