Type 2 Newbie saying Hi.

Hi all my name is John, I a type 2 diabetic controlled with oral medication, I have a number of goals in mind, these are get my blood sugars at a acceptable level, get more exercise and eat healthy.

I have been beavering away at these goals and have increased the dog walking and started a new hobby called Munzee ( http://www.munzee.com/download/ ) Gets me out and about moving and keeps me motivated.
 
Well I have just bought myself a blood test machine and have been taking bloods when I get up in the morning. These have been a little high but not as bad as I thought, 7.1 & 7.3 & 6.1 Thats the results of the three days i've taken them so far. Been told I don't need to take blood glucose lvls but how do I control this demon without it.

And that's the thing John,
The drs say we don't need to test but if we have any intention of being proactive about our diabetes then test we must. I personally would not have a clue what foods affect me without my meter.
Stick around John there's some great folk on here with loads of great advice.

How indeed! Well done on taking the bull by the horns and getting a meter. You will find it essential at least in the beginning. As you are testing your morning fasting levels, you might like to join in the type 2 thread where we record our readings every day and try to help each other.

Have a good read round the forums and then decide on a diet that is suitable for you. The Healthy Diet promoted by the NHS isn't very diabetic friendly because it advocates that we eat a lot of carbohydrates including starchy ones. For diabetics, carbs = sugar so need to be eaten in moderation, if at all. You'll find plenty of information on this forum.
