I have various health issues, and I am overweight.I was diagnosed with t2 about six months ago, I thought it would be diet controlled my gp said now treat with metaformin early and it will also surpress my appitite, not! need a way forward with this thing!!

Hi, welcome.

What diet have you been following? What have your HbA1c results been?

Hello I was given metformin and started to walk my dogs at a apace I also watched what I ate and the weigth started disapearing...thank goodness

Hello everyone thanks for reply, I think I was 4.6... I am trying the slimmers world diet.not very well ,not entirely clear re right and wrong foods to eat. I on a treadmill 20 mins a day every day,i am feeling fitter but not thinner

4.6 is normal, think you may need to recheck with your Gp as to what the reading actually was.

Get yourself a full printout from reception - you are entitled - chances are there are other tests on there (cholesterol etc) which will be useful. Too many GPs operate under a need-to-know basis (their need, not yours).

OK so that's not too bad at all. You use a treadmill which is good, but what do you eat in the Slimmers' World diet? Your main focus should be on reducing carbohydrates, because that is just the same as eating sugar for a diabetic.

Iwas told today its 7.2 someone suggested l c h f cut sugar Swedish diet anybody got news re this diet? slimmers world not working very well for me!

Which is it? 6.6 or 7.2, or are they different tests? If you can be a bit clearer it would help us. Did you get your print outs as Sanguine suggested?

no print out a hospital visit prior to minor op. the diabetic nurse gave me 6.6 as average

If she used the word "average" that is probably your HbA1c result, but quite honestly you need to know this, and if your DN had the information there will be a computer record and therefore a print out available. Do ask for it, you are working blind. If this was your HbA1c, you are just a tad inside the diabetic range, so with a bit of work you can get those levels down.

Slimmers World and other similar groups are not generally diabetic friendly diets as they include carbohydrates. If you tell us what a typical day's food is we may be able to suggest some changes.

Well I was on what they called Easy Extra but it does mean pasta, rice potatoes etc so I felt that a low carb high fat diet might do it,but how will that fit in with my health issues, angina ,stroke, blocked arteries, sleep apnea, random leg movements, obese and now this!! I am a bit of a wreck trying to refloat!!

I don't think that plan is very suitable at all for a diabetic. Your first priority should be to cut out starchy carbs if you are going to keep your blood glucose under control.

You are right so I am now trying the low carb high fat diet I cant believe that having cream and butter fatty meat wont kill me,with my arteries going into major blockages but it would seem that a lot of that is mythe and fat is good for me ,with out the carbs of course!.Anyway I have to give it best ,I am 18 half stone so lot to do!!

While reducing the carbs is undoubtedly good advice, I think that you should check that increasing your fat intake won't impact on your other health issues

Keep an eye on the calories with the higher fat - you can only lose weight if you burn more than you consume.

Yes, Sanguine is right. When you go low carb you also lose calories, but make sure the extra fat you are eating doesn't exceed those lost calories. Dairy food is rich in calories, so do please count them.

Yes I am careful but it is very difficult, I lost 6lb this week, don't hold your breath for more, I am doing 20 mins fast walking on the treadmill
