What do you all do when your levels are too high to get them down again.......

Err I used to use more insulin but now I am off it. I think the only thing to do is stop eating carbs,.Apparently you can take up to 6 Metformin tabs per day but after 4 they do not do much.(check it out on the net.

Exercise might drop it but I think it comes back when you stop.

If I get a high reading I look at what I have eaten and either avoid it or seriously reduce the carb portions in future.

Are you struggling, Patsy?

Yes, don't eat that food again.
But to get the levels down, I find exercise works for me.

it goes high after my dinner which I have at tea time...I have booked into see the nurse next week as she is off this week maybe I need some insulin for tea time only...

2 small patatoes....veg....gravy chicken, yorkshire .

One thing to do is go for a mile walk about an hour after eating. This will get your muscles to soak up the glucose and not leave it to your pancreas. Make the walk a brisk one as that works best.

Be careful with gravy. If you use granules to make it, they are quite heavy in carbs. I suggest you read the nutrition label on the jar. Also the Yorkshire won't have done you any favours! I've had to give up my Yorkshires for now, and can only have about 150ml of gravy, which isn't much.

I gave up potatoes. (Haven't tried them again to be honest, apart from chips!)
I found sweet potato was a lot better, cut up as roasts, put in the oven, spray of 1 cal, and eaten instead of roast potato.
Gravy I tried with arrowroot to thicken, seems ok.

Mash, cauli, sweet potato, swede, turnip, all replaced potato for me, in varying mixtures, but you have to try each one for yourself, individually at first.

today had 1 weetabix for breakfast am having 1 slice of bread and an egg for lunch bought some fish for my dinner which i have at tea time and will have some veg with it then see what the levels are two hours after that only thing is I do not want to lose weight arghhhh

carefull what I ate yesterday blood sugars 7.7 this am I thought would be lower grrr

If my BG goes too high, I indulge in a burst of exercise to burn up all that extra 'energy' floating about in my blood.

Run up and down stairs several times
Kettlebell swings, to the point of muscle failure (doesn't take long!)
Take the dog out for a brisk walk

It usually starts to drop within about 10 mins, and returns to normal much more quickly than if I sit and slob in front of the tv.

Works for me too... So much so nowadays I can do 3mmol/L drop in 5 minutes now as my muscles have just got larger and fitter. This used to take me 20 mins when I was first diagnosed.

A good and simple exercise (as Brunneria says) is to walk up the stairs and then down (just like wee willy winkle) for about 250 steps (takes about 10 mins) and this helps tremendously about an hour after eating. I also did this if my levels where above my target 5.7 before bed.
