Just wondered what sort of symptoms people here get?

Ive been a long term anxiety/agoraphobia sufferer since in my late teens and for the last 5 years or so assumed i was just having 3-4 hour long episodes of bad anxiety. I would literally be sitting on the 99% mark just before pure hysterics normally ensue. So id be stuck like this for hours on end usually with very heavy palpitations (always present), an urgent need to pee and breathing difficulties sometimes and not being able to get up for fear of completely losing the plot and having a very bad panic attack. As i had been having the damned things for nearly 20 years i could clearly tell these were being triggered by something specific rather than occurring through stress, fear or other 'normal' causes.

After a while i started noticing it was after eating some foods and tried for a few years to work out what it was, dairy? nuts? and so on. Finally about 2 or 3 months ago i noticed i nearly always got a case of palpitations after eating anything with bread in it and also anything with bread AND/OR sugar like iced buns and similar. I even started using this knowledge to my advantage and wouldn't eat or drink anything if i had to go out anywhere (been getting therapy for the agoraphobia so i can get to my brothers wedding in a few months) and its actually been working out really well not having to deal with palpitations caused by food on top of the regular anxiety ones.

So long story short, anxiety (sometimes)/palpitations (always) and breathing difficulty (occasionally). Have i been having Hypos? The palpitations i get really regular after eating a lot of food.

Hi, can you get to your GP and explain what is happening? It could be any number of things but I was diagnosed in January with Celiac disease (I am already t1 diabetic) and your description is similar to how I felt when I was on gluten. They can do a smile blood test to check for the antibodies which would be attacking your small bowel.

Celiac is another autoimmune disorder, not an allergy. And it doesn't mean you would be sick every time you ate bread ( which is what my GP thinks, though I have to say in every other aspect he is marvellous). Don't stop eating gluten though until the Docs advise or you can end up with false negative results.

Hope you get sorted soon and it is fantastic about your therapy - you are very brave. I bet your brother will be chuffed to bits to have you there! Take care
