Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

You can get decaff Yorkshire tea. Caffeine is known to affect BS and some folk are sensitive to the artificial sweeteners. I'd be inclined to measure out a 100ml of milk as you might on any diet and use that till it's gone ( I use lactofree milk as it is lower in carbs than normal milk and milk always makes me a bit queasy). Also green tea is lovely without milk or sweetener. Tbh it wouldn't take long to break that habit - and it is just habit. IIt doesn't have to be a few years more but miserable- it does seem hard trying to lose weight and keep levels stable but I have found the two go hand in hand and that I've finally lost weight after years of being obese because I have ditched the carbs. I have a good breakfast, a snack lunch most days and then a decent evening meal with lots of salad or veg. Carbs are a habit like the sweetener - if you just keep plugging away at reducing them, and finding substitutes that you like ( like the celery and pate ) things will get better.

@Debmcgee Thanks for the support :)
Two cups a day is never going to happen .We have decaf coffee but I'm not a coffee drinker .May have to swap a few :meh:I'm eating full fat mayo and yep i test before bed ...bg's usually lower than when I wake. The way this is going I may live more years but it will be a miserable life .*sigh*
Not your post Deb getting me down ...just feeling peed off and angry because the Metformin is making me run to the loo and I feel nauseous almost constantly .

Think I'm going to ditch ALL my meds .I want a life ...not an existence!

Careful what you wish for@Susiespearish ! When you've mastered your eating/drinking and brought your bs down, you may find that a reduction in meds is possible. I've gradually taken myself off all my strong meds without even realising it. just by adopting the LCHF lifestyle The last to go was co-codamol two weeks ago and I can't believe I'm walking around pain free for the first time in years. I'm not suggesting everyone can give up their meds but I really do believe our diet is responsible for a lot of our ailments and once its addressed, there can be beneficial effect with other conditions.

I'm now only taking Metformin and have never had any ill-effects from it, but I have the slow release and built up to maximum dose gradually, over several weeks, under supervision from the pharmacist and my DN. Do you take the slow release?

I totally agree that food plays a large part in our ailments Diana and yes if nothing else this has made me address my weight issues .I am on slow release but I think I gave the Metformin a good long try last time and it did nothing but make me unwell and fatter .I should never have agreed to try it again .I was actually feeling much better on the low carb over the last week and along comes Metformin and ruins everything.

I guess we are all different. I'm a coffee addict and I can't say it affects my BG levels. I take one and a half to two spoons of coffee depending on the size of the mug... I like a big mug.

Perhaps I'm ok with it because I drink it black ... Have done since 1980. I wasn't a huge coffee drinker because I found it gave me tummy ache if I had it first thing in the morning. I stopped adding milk and the tummy ache stopped. Although I drink it black, I do have cappuccino as a dessert if I'm eating out. No tummy upsets and I include it in my carb intake limit for the day/meal.

I had a green tea in caffe nero the other day and enjoyed it. Hated it when I made my own a coule of years ago but tried again as @coldethyl recommended it ... Or was it @paulins? Anyway ... Thank you!

I'm sorry some of you are having trouble with tea/coffee. I don't drink much tea. I enjoy peppermint tea and also some of the ginger variations. I also enjoy tea when I'm in Turkey ... No milk, of course, I much prefer it that way.

5 This morning and I feel so lucky as exercise has been my saviour. My job is already fairly active but I've got my self a system now that seems to work for me. I stick to low carb for breakfast and lunch which keeps my numbers in the 4-6 range but for evening meal I'm a little less careful, I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones as I can eat oven chips or home made potatoe wedges (done in oven) brown basmati and things like scampi . But the exercise is the key, straight after I've finished my evening meal I cycle for 10 miles every night to burn off those carbs and sugars I've had for tea and my readings after have been as low as 3.7 but no higher than 4.5. I must add I'm on no medication and have dropped my weight by almost 2 stone to 14st over the last 2 months, I've never been happier. Essay over :-)

4.6 for me this morning. Ate at 7pm instead of 10pm and slept like a baby after 15k on the bike.

6.0, that's better. Not quite finished work yet, I stopped functioning about 10:30 last night. A couple of hours now should do it, then it's holiday time :D

7.3 this morning after a very long day in the car driving from Dorset to Hereford to an event yesterday. No exercise whatsoever except for walking around the castle I was working in. Kept bs between 5 - 7 throughout the day except for a spike of 9.3 after a cheeky frappacino from the Starbucks drive-thru. on route. I wanted to test how long the spike lasted. Really I did.....;)After three hours bs were down to 6.1. Experiment complete

Stress levels at their worst just now in my legal affairs after the other side defaulted on Monday . My solicitor is away on holiday this week and no-one else in his office is willing to advise me since it has now become too complicated. Hey ho.. Beach hut beckons for a spot of sunshine and tranquillity therapy today before another road trip tomorrow

Enjoy the return of sunshine and warm temperatures everyone

Good luck Diana. Sounds v stressful. Just the mere mention of a solicitor sends my bg and bp sky high!

3.7 for me this morning. That's at the lower end of my range, but I'm still perfectly fine at that level. Of course, when I get up I have a nice cup of tea with milk, so it gets a little lift anyway.

Well, yesterday seemed like another successful day on the technology front; especially as the issue with the mobile phone amplifier appears to have sorted itself out by receiving a decent ignoring! It can take 24 hours to synch with the mobile server, and that lapsed during its ignoring. :) Yay !

My new laptop also arrived yesterday evening. A courier delivery after 7pm? I was astonished, but quite happy, so I have been doing a million updates and software installations since then. This morning I need to transfer my data and settings from the apparently dying machine, and I should be good to go. It's lovely and fast, and I love that I get my full internet speed over wifi, where with the older machine, I never quite managed it's full potential unless I used a cable. And, who's going to do that by choice? not me, for sure.

This afternoon, I need to revisit IKEA to pick up a couple of things I couldn't get last time, and restock the cheapo clock supply. I know that's bizarre, sort of thing to be buying, but on our boat clocks just die. it's not that their batteries die. They die. Of course we have time displays on instruments and technology, but we like a clear, white clock face for a quick glance. Experience tells us the cheapos from IKEA at 80p do just as well as more expensive options. Of course, I'll feel psychotic by the time I've been around the store, but at least the children have gone back to school, so fewer little people under the feet.

Have a great day everyone.

5.5 ( or 5) today. Slowly seeing my fasting coming more into line with day time readings. I've lost 3 stone which I reckon has really had an impact. Still more to shift so hoping that with a good wind I can be at my wedding day weight ( of 27 yrs ago! By Mrt E's 50th in February.

You'd really be giving him back the woman he married. ;) Do you still have your wedding dress, or whatever you wore?
