How would you all feel about a BANTER BOX ?
A place to have a bit of fun and banter .
Obviously if was used with offence or drunkenness then
posts would get moderated .

Then threads can be left to evolve as a discussion and more derail free .
Any members who feel another member has entered to a discussion and
is acting too jovial or daft .
They can be encouraged to the BANTER BOX for this .

Supporting members is the mainstay here and what the forum is
so fantastic with doing .
Sometimes when there is a blend and mix of members coming into
a thread for a bit of fun it can spoil the flow of fantastic support .

With a view towards the newbies joining here .
Some members are very familiar with each other .
The newbies naturally can be more nervous or cautious
amongst friendships already well established here .

The BANTER BOX will allow members who are familiar
with each other and their style of expressions and speech
to have their jovial banter and fun .
Newbies can then enter a discussion not feeling side lined
to coin a phrase !
Its can be hard being a new person arriving on the scene .
Hence the points I have raised here .

in other words Andy12345 stay in banter box? gotcha ;)

:)

Thank you too for starting this thread. Feedback is really important to me as the forum manager, and I really do appreciate everything that's been said in this thread.

Hopefully I can get the ball rolling in the right direction in the coming weeks. As I've said, I'm already working on a few things and they unfortunately take a while to both program and test correctly. There's also a plethora of new features already in place for the next big forum update too :)
what would be nice is if a software code is added. to have it so someone has to have 5 posts before a link can be added, it will stop a lot of spam. it should be copy paste from your forum software provider

Would the Banter Box be a different thread, or a category of post within a thread? Another forum I know of uses an integrated approach, they call "Chit Chat", with a button on each thread saying something like "Hide Chit Chat / Show Chit Chat", with the original post poster able to reactegorise a post at any time. That sort of worked, except that it didn't encourage people to stay on track and sometimes posts were wrongly categorised, but I think it's a great approach .

If the Banter Box is a different thread, it might be fun, but I doubt would stop threads going off track. If you look back through even this well ordered thread, the diversions were humour based on a the wording of a post. Taking that off somewhere completely separate wouldn't work. For example, the sheep diversion.......

That's my view.

Hmmm not sure - a banter box sounds good in theory, but as Andy12345 says would some of us be banished there the moment we started to disagree with something? I ask because as a newbie I wasn't confident enough to introduce myself and got more confident by posting on a couple of 'argumentative' threads. Two posters in particular made me laugh and kept me interested in the forum ( I bet some of you wish they hadn't, eh?;)) It's sometimes quite easy to get a thread back on track, it doesn't always have to end because of a little disruption in the middle.

I think what we all should remember is to respect threads by newbies and behave ourselves on those especially.

I thought we already had that - the general chat part of the forum, Thommo's pub thread etc.

It is natural in real life for conversations to include banter. This thread went for 250-odd posts before a chicken was mentioned. Not bad going I reckon.

@AndBreathe

I apologise , my grump last night wasn't about this thread, I just needed to get it off my chest and I realise now I should have maybe been a bit more forthcoming with my explanation or posted somewhere else, or just kept quiet.

Grump is good .
I do good grump .

I must rein in the banter though .
Over and out .
( Until I just can't resist )

@anna29 and co, I reported a thread with 2 spam posts and the whole thread disappeared?...so was there a reason?

From experience, I've found that this isn't practical. We already have very sophisticated anti-spam measures in place and you'd be very surprised how much it stops. I don't want to stop anyone from posting links, just in case newbies wish to post links as sources, which is sometimes quite important depending on the context of a thread.

Good job you have highlighted this or else I wouldn't have known .

My own PC is being repaired and am using someone else's PC .
Their keyboard and function tools is slightly different too - hence how I have done this one .

Will ask admin nicely if can get it back for you .

not worth the hassle for a mistake but perhaps a message to the OP @AndyMc it was his first post:)

Hi
I'm a 42-year-old male, 6 foot, 11 stone (was 12.5-13 stone until recently, weight has been steadily dropping over last few months, despite no diet changes). Althought I've never been significantly overweight, my diet has always had a lot of sugar and 'bad' carbs.
I bought a BG meter last week and it confirmed what I'd suspected for a while, that my blood sugar is high. The first reading (shortly after a meal) was 20, which was a shock. Next morning (i.e. fasting) it was 13, still very high. I immediately cut out pretty much all carbs (replaced with meat and eggs, mainly), and by next morning it was down to 11. The three or four mornings since then has been around 7.5 - 8.5, but basically it seems to have bottomed there, despite eating almost zero carbs.
I'm wondering why the level is hovering around 8 after 5 days of near-zero carbs. Where is the sugar coming from? Or am I just being impatient? Is it likely to fall further over the next few weeks?
Also I haven't been to a GP yet. Based on what I've read it's unlikely the GP will be able to offer much assistance. Assuming I can keep my BG down to 8 or lower, is there any benefit to seeing a GP?
Thanks for any advice
Andy

No problem. You just had me wondering if I was personally losing the plot.

Of course, that's probably up for debate anyway. ;)
Not sure that I ever found the plot in the first place. But I am having a jolly old time anyway.

@zand @AndBreathe

Thanks for your understanding, I guess I will just have to grow a thicker skin

Just fluff up your feathers instead of letting them get ruffled. :)

(That for anyone who is unsure is a bit of banter from a member who thinks she knows another member well enough to be so bold).

That gets a yes from me. There is already a couple of threads for this started by the very talented @Brunneria. (Room. 101).
